This is news to me. I don't know anybody who went to an organized school who got to request their DPE. Also, not all schools are like this. I didn't give a dime to my DPE first-hand. I paid the school, the school paid the DPE.

If you are in Central NJ or Philly - Hortman Aviation out of PNE is very good.

Seminole, Seneca, Duchess would be my recommendations if you're jumping in with no time-in-type. Seneca's larger and more stable but will cost more. But they're all pretty stable.
Aztec would work too and be more stable than Seminole/Duchess, but would cost more (make sure it has a standard six-pack...older ones may not).

Careful on New Braunfels, completely evaluator dependent. We had one or two guys in the squadron get a pass for almost zero effort, but then had another pair of guys get the asshat DE who gave a 3.5 hour ground eval. Oddly enough the tool DE is a former member of our squadron, and is why people had stopped using New Braufels before. The school apparently prepares you for the easy DE, not the difficult one. I'd avoid like the plague.
