Has anyone used Sawyer Aviation in Scottsdale? I've spent a few hours in a DA42 with the G1000 setup, so I'm thinking two flights to run through the ATP profile and then the practical. If I can knock it out elsewhere in 4 to 5 days for under $3,000 I'm willing to switch planes, I'm a steam gauge C-130 guy. Has anyone used Arizona FTC in the last month or so?
Thanks, Ben

Here is another military option….have a couple of sources saying this guy is definitely BIG picture (pro-military):
Dr. Morris Ray
Downtown Aviation (Memphis, TN) - Olive Branch, Flight School, Flight Training, Aircraft, Service
Aircraft trained in = BE-76
Price quote:
1. Examiner fee - $300 (there is a female C-17 Guard (KMEM) who also is a check pilot out there -- her cost is $400. I'm going w/ Dr. Ray….
2. Ground - 3 hr @ $40/per = $120
3. Flying - $295/hr (total of 4.5 hours (2.5 "learning' the plane and a 2.0/hr check ride) -
Total cost quoted = ~$1750
** He did mention that if you fly with a buddy, the price drops down to about $1500 total because you are basically splitting the cost of the flight time (you both won't need a 2.5 hour adaptation flight).
** He also isn't big on weekend flying because of extra Mx costs, so expect to fly during the week. I did squeeze a Friday / Saturday deal with no issues.
Their scheduling system is what you would come to expect from a reputable business, and the reviews from folks who have gone there are what we expect from an ATP checkout -- FAIR.
They are approved for the GI Bill….
I'll reply back with the gouge once I complete the ticket…

Higher Power is where a majority of guys are going. One of the check pilots, Charlie, is a good dude who I met over the holidays.

...and he did NOT want me taking the ATP this weekend.
The plane broke on Friday with no avionics guys on hand to fix it. Ended up coming with Strep Throat and the flu saturday afternoon and spent the weekend in bed watching Netflix and slamming Ibuprofen and Theraflu.
Pushed back 3 weeks.

Careful on New Braunfels, completely evaluator dependent. We had one or two guys in the squadron get a pass for almost zero effort, but then had another pair of guys get the asshat DE who gave a 3.5 hour ground eval. Oddly enough the tool DE is a former member of our squadron, and is why people had stopped using New Braufels before. The school apparently prepares you for the easy DE, not the difficult one. I'd avoid like the plague.

Search around, there are whole threads devoted to CPT and HPA 737 types.
Long story short, they are both good. I think HPA is doing sims in a different location from their ground school right now due to the SWA hiring ramp up not allowing them to use their training center. CPT has a good reputation for a quality product.
