Rotary time

Have a buddy who flies CH-47 and has 850 TT. Do you, like fixed wing, increase total time going to civilian time? Example, isnt it like 1.2x TT for fixed wing or somewhere aroung that number? Thanks in advance!

Any military time is converted. Its because the civilian world counts taxi time as flight time.

It used to be 1.3 to 1.

It depends on the company. I don't know if it applies to rotary wing time, but for fixed wing some companies allow a .2 or .3 addition per sortie, some allow a multiplier.

It's for adding in taxi time to come up with total flight time per FAA regs (movement with the intent to fly).

How much taxi time does a helo typically have????

If you're in a wheeled helicopter, it can be a while depending on where you are and how the parking is set up. Most Army helicopters have to do a 'HIT' check to make sure that the engines are making enough/consistent power. If you never leave the ground enroute to the HIT check area, per AR 95-1, that time is not logged. An easy fix is to pick up, set down and resume ground taxi.

I wish the time was logged per FARs, dunno why.. $$ maybe?

Actually, a LOT of taxi time. At NAS North Island, for example, you had to taxi to the active runway for takeoff just like a fixed wing.

It was pretty funny, considering the whole place is one huge concrete pad. In fact, there's an old Errol Flynn movie from pre-WWII that was shot at NASNI. They just wheeled the biplane fighters out of the hangar, pointed them into the wind and off they went.
