The turbine and furlough insurance of the Reserves is of higher value than the "don't let the door hit ya on the way out" devil's money, but i'm just a reserve baby so...

Apply now to the airlines. With your 737 type rating you're a shoe-in for SWA. Even though we got rid of the requirement for a 737 type they still give you credit for it and they seem to give interview offers quicker to those with the type. If you don't have an ADSC get out immediately. Not having the second pass-over makes it easier to get into the guard/reserves, and you'd have to pay severance back if hired by them anyway. In addition, if you have any disability claims, the severance pay would be deducted from your disability claims.
The one reason you might want to stay is for TERA, if offered. I've heard that it's on the books until 2018, although no one will tell you that you can apply for it. I'm pretty sure that the OSA aircraft are not on the critical manning list, so as long as you have 15 years time in service you should be eligible. But a lot can change in 12(ish) months, so proceed carefully. |
TERA? I'm an outsider, but I am thinking stop-loss may be more likely going forward than early retirements.....

I doubt the OP is TERA eligible if he doesn't have any E time, this is his O-4 board not O-5. I would pursue a Palace Chase in parallel with applying for the airlines.

Getting passed over on AD has no bearing in the guard/reserves, as far as I know. Apply to the airlines now and come up with the best possible separation date. Seniority is everything.
Fortunately for me, after applying for the VSP three times I was selected for it at the 7.5 year point and now I'm sitting at Southwest after being hired with less time than you.
