Considering Becoming a Guard Pilot
Hey guys, I've always wanted to become a pilot but only have about 25 hours. I went to a college that offered flight training but had to transfer because I couldn't pay for it anymore. This semester I will be graduating with a Bachelors in Psychology and I'm trying to figure out how I'll pay for student loans and flight training. Ive looked at civilian jobs but so far I'm leaning toward Guard or Navy careers since they're more interesting and a lot of my family has been in the military. I'm wondering what are my odds of becoming a cargo pilot for the guard even though I might only have a private pilots license. I'd also consider becoming an air traffic controller if possible. I noticed pilot jobs in my area (WI) so I know they're available. Any advice would be helpful.
Thank you
Thank you

I'll look into that, I actually have a buddy stationed out there as an Air Force C5 Mechanic. I know that like almost nobody who joins the Navy or Air Force become pilots because of how difficult it is to be chosen to go through the program. Does anyone know if its less difficult to do the Guard even though its the same program as the Air Force?

Don't listen to people who wanted to do it but didn't, or that wanted to fly but enlisted and did another job. It's very doable, if you put the effort in to get the job.
One other piece of advice, during your interview, don't use the word "like" the way you used it above (Am I right UALT38Phlyer? I know this drives you nuts)

Most of them did not sign up to become pilots. If you meet all the requirements and sign up with a guaranteed pilot slot your odds of success are well above 50% these days, even above 80%.

I was a "Guard" baby, did some AD, was a guardsman, a reservist, an ART, just for background. If you really want to go to UPT, are blessed with meeting the medical standards, get a degree and start early enough before the limit age--you will go to UPT. I sent perhaps a dozen to UPT as a Ops O and commander, everyone really wanted it. The ones that didn't got waylaid by other glittering objects like wives, other careers, money, etc. it will take several years to get the whole process done, MOST OF THE TIME.
I sent two standouts back in the post-Desert Storm drawdown in a matter of weeks. One was direct commissioned (not possible now) and the other was a commissioned ROTC grad who wasn't given a UPT slot in the drawdown.
