Default TIPS anyone?

Is it time for ALPA and other unions to officially endorse tips? I floated the tip balloon may years ago in negotiations and was shot down by ALPA national. They have no veto power of course but were influential on our MEC.

I believe the airline industry is a service industry and should encourage tipping. FA should definitely be allowed to accept tips. I think the image of a pilot with his hat held out would shame the company to think twice about more pay cuts.

Just an idea that’s time may have come.

Why not if we're just bus drivers? Just like limo and taxi cabs too.

I hate tipping. I think that management should pay a fair wage to pilots and waitresses alike.

The big problem with tipping is that it isn't for good service anymore. You are expected to tip even when the service is mediocre. A lot of places even add the tip to the bill automatically if you have a large group.

I think that people should do their job, collect their paycheck, and not expect a tip UNLESS they provide really exceptional service.

Maybe we should charge the way hospitals do: "OK, Sir, the $99 covers your seat rental--then we have the Captain's fee, meterological consultation, two bottles of water @$5 each, your pro-rated share of 6000 gallons of fuel,.....

You're kidding, right? How low-brow is the profession going to go?

The day tipping pilots becomes acceptable, I'll quit flying and become a bertender. The hours are better, you meet more chicks, AND you get to sleep in your own bed most nights.

It is pretty low now don't you think? Just look at the Caneman. At least tips should not be refused. An FA should not have to risk getting fired for accepting a tip. This is not your fathers airline industry.

Said with a sneer, "You want a tip, pal? Get out of town!"

LOL..no kidding. I'm afraid to get the bill for the knee surgery that I had last week. I'm probably looking at the $20,000 knee. When I was coming out of the general anesthesia, my surgeon and anesthesiologist were standing over me and asking me if I wanted a pill for pain. I gazed up at them in my drug induced haze and asked, "Is that a $200 pill?"...they laughed. Thank God for insurance is all I can say.

Yeah, but you also have to listen to every drunk's sob story, but maybe you won't have to sleep in your own bed alone..
