That's terrific news, things have definitely shifted! A much more comfortable office for sure.

Not quite.... Other than the "Dirty Thirty" from the NJI merger, the most junior Captains are 2005 hires.

I'm a hire from the first week of Jan 2006 and if I stay, I'm still looking at another 20 months before upgrade.

Yep, I was on the Phenom from about 6 months after they arrived at NJA until spring of last year. Huge difference in reliability. Early on lots and lots of issues, like GCU's that were too sensitive to GPU power, we would have to pull power and do battery starts. I remember oil leaks being an issue. And a number of avionics issues, like the "takeoff data can not be set in the air" or some similar message that would make the FMS unusable for that leg. And the lav privacy doors were a Rube Goldberg nightmare, way too complicated. Just loved telling Thurston and Lovey "btw, if you want to use the lav you'll have to do it in front of everyone" I actually had to go back inflight once to rescue a pax from the lav after the door jammed when they tried to come out.

But eventually Embraer worked out all these bugs. By last spring the jets were getting disgustingly reliable. And when they did break there were enough uncrewed Phenoms that you were otw to a new jet within an hour or two.

The brake issue that caused 322 to go off the runway was dealt with by a software change and new procedures where you do not touch the Emer Brake unless you have a brake CAS or hydraulic message. The crew was hydroplaning and thought they had lost brakes. Emer brake was applied, and with no anti-skid protection the tires locked up and just steam-cleaned the runway. They had so much energy departing the runway they went thru 300-400ft of soft mud before hitting the ditch.

I’ve flown with both crew on that flight. I wouldn’t be too quick to blame anything or anyone. The Nom is quickly zipping up loose ends that have cause AOG issues being subjected to the digits of the way our company scheduled. It’s done well.

The oil leaks are getting a lot of attention most recently and you’ll be surprised (or maybe not) by the findings. Most aren’t leaks at all. More later through training coming, hopefully soon.

Now if they could just keep those darn Lav Mirrors from coming loose. [emoji848]

Hey, look at it this way... the MD80 busted the entire tail section off during flight testing. They’re still being flown by Delta and AA.

It looks like the Nom will continue to grow for several year in number. It’s become quite the machine.

And this much is true: You either make peace with it and enjoy it, have seniority to burn and bid out...or you don’t fly it and believe all the scary stories designed to keep senior pilots out. 🤭

When are they going to stop these arbitrary upgrades when they don’t actually need more captains? I get appeasing the senior FOs but you can’t hsve 80% of the pilot group captains...

Nobody knows -- they'll probably get some wiggle-room when Age 70 passes, but it doesn't look sustainable for any significant duration.

That still isn’t a significant number of captains. They really need growth but Bozo has zero interest in doing any growth. It’s so bizarre.

I'm sure the bad seats, lack of legroom, no APU, lack of freon AC or ground heater, and no TRs have nothing to do with people not wanting to be in the Phenom.
Just a bunch of crazy stories told by pilots secretly enjoying the most awesome plane in the fleet!

Just when you thought FLYLOW22 couldn't go any farther away from reality lol...
