What he states above is most definitely not the norm, especially in the Phenom. 11-13 hour days, 3-5 legs a day, 11-12 hours of rest is the norm. Columbus constantly watching what you are doing trying to screw you at every corner is the norm. I used to come home exhausted, even after 1 or 2 fatigues a tour. It is very refreshing being treated like an adult!! one leg into MEM, one leg out. EASY. No pax to deal with. Unfortunately NJ still has many suck ups like Lieber, who will step over anyone to get ahead. The mass exodus has just begun, and the people left behind will have to work even harder. I still have many dear friends at NJ, and wish only the best for them, and can say many that had not considered leaving, many senior Captains, are looking to bail, not just FO's anymore. NJ might become a great place to work, but it is going to take a lot of money to properly crew the airplanes and retain people, money I do not think BH is willing to pay.

Well said! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Unfortunately with pilots like FLYLOW22 bragging about how cool it is to be on duty and go for walks when the entire rest of the industry just does that on their long overnights, that pilot group will never get anything good...

the level of maintenance pushback that is egregiously unsafe is what sealed the deal for me. I was tired of ACPs calling me after my captain would write up a plane. "Hey Buckeye, so tell me what is going on? A brake fail CASS, well did you do a hard reset? I mean if the message went away then you should be good."

I've had out based maintenance tell us that NJA MX told them to sign off on a water filled ice light and that the part to replace it was being sent to the FBO (we were supposed to do an out and back to Sun Valley). Guy refused and NJA found a different contract mx guy to do their dirty work (we found something else to write up to keep the trip from happening).

Honestly, that and the high level of "I don't fatigue even though I'm falling asleep at the controls" that goes on...it was time to go. (also, I would call fatigued when I felt my captains were too far gone and wouldn't pull the plug. That happened at least 10 times in the 3 years I was there)

I can’t wait until NJA has to lower their mins so some fresh ATP UND grad who was flying a Seneca the week prior, gets paired up with a half dead, fatigued CA. That’s when the fireworks will really start.

The mx stuff was pretty bad. For as safety conscious as they were in some areas, the mx pushing was so bad. I’ll never forget them trying to push us to go into MSP with bald tires and chord showing and it was heavybowing snow and poor braking action. Yea let’s push a Phenom 300 into those conditions, what’s the worst that can happen?!

But there would be more snow

Email from the Phenom ACP: "your drug/alcohol tests will be waiting at the gate. Fill up the tubes with urine on the flight. CLS will be waiting for you at baggage claim to take you to the FBO. Unfortunately, the owners are already waiting in the lobby and there won't be any catering available. Just try your best and let us know if there is anything we can do to help."

I had some minor pushback from Mx on writeup's that weren't clear cut.

Once we had water standing inside a landing light. That wasn't covered anywhere in the mx manual. I'm like...uh...water and electricity don't mix well...they wanted me to take it, I just said "no". Advantage to having a union backing you.

More clear cut stuff, like a emer light not working they grumbled under their breath but didn't push back.

I think the most P.O.'d they ever got at me was when we downed a Phenom at the old Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Puerto Rico. Not much there now, the FBO is a small trailer. Our #1 battery had been weak for a couple of days, we kept having to get GPU's to charge it. I talked to Mx and gave them a heads up that this battery was about shot and if we went somewhere without a GPU we might get stuck.

After a 3.5 hour flight and about a 1 hour sit we got ready to leave Rosey Roads. #1 battery was 23.5 volts, 24 is the min. Call Mx, they say get a GPU. Uhh...no GPU available, nearest one is 2 hours away at San Jose Intl. 3 days later we left with a new battery, spent 3 nights in a Waldorf Astoria Resort, NetJets finally had to charter a plane to bring in a new battery and mechanic to install it

I had other cases where the question was "when is a limit not a limit" and got some minor pushback when it was close.

If NetJets treated the pilot group with respect, pilots wouldn't hold the line so hard when it comes to stuff like batteries. Lets be real, we all know that engine is gonna start at 23.5 volts, but because writing it up is the only way to get relief. Most of the pilot group will do no favors to the company because the company will never give you any favors.

Exactly. And if you do them a favor and something goes wrong they'll stab you in the back. No good deed goes unpunished.

I once put on my "A-Teamer" hat because the pax were flying from an small midwest airport to a major Northeastern airport to catch an international airline to Europe. No way they would have made their airline if our trip had to be recovered. So I did the flight, wrote up the mx issue and was rewarded with a 3 hour Limo and preflighting another jet with some TNTV time thrown in for good measure

Lol oh man, I remember that scenario all too well.

Funny, we had the battery issue on several occasions with the Phenom and when we followed the rules, we were rewarded with absurdity. I remember right before I left we wrote up a plane in SDL for batteries, they put is un a limo to TUS to get another airplane, got there and mx jacked up the Garmin update and it was broken. They put us back in another limo to PHX and airlined us to OKC for the next day. If NetJets can't keep the metal moving, it will keep you moving to make up for it. Nothing like a 14 hour day of trains planes and automobiles, just for doing the right thing and writing the plane up.
