Not hatin’. Just realistic. And accurate.

If they can get scheduling under control lots of pilots there would be happy, especially the older ones for whom switching jobs is not really an option.
IMO, the biggest thing they need is an AM/PM schedule option. I'm a "night owl" and almost all my fatigue calls were because of early shows. I've landed the jet as late as 0430 and been OK with that. I've told my CP that I'm fine ending a 14 hour day at 0400, but I'm NOT fine starting at 0400! I've been a night owl for over 20 years and just don't do well with circadian rhythm swings. If I knew I'd always be on an early schedule I could adjust to that. Worst case they ever did, after that 0430 landing I mentioned above we were given at 1500 show at hotel because our jet was still in mx. An hour later at 1600 they shut us down and gave us a 0500 show  My F/O and I just laughed at that and mutually agreed we'd both fatigue and file ASAP's if we really had to do that. We knew there was a good chance it'd turn into a hotel show because of the Mx work and that's what happened. If I could get a PM schedule I'd be happy to go back when and if I have the option medically (not likely). What is a hotel show? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wake up, check in, unmute phone and go back to sleep. If called out you have 45 minutes to be ready to depart the hotel.

28.3(B) Reserve Duty Reserve Duty is Company-assigned duty time spent at a Company-provided hotel room or the crewmember’s residence. Reserve Duty begins as directed by the Company. A crewmember on Reserve Duty is required to be contactable. A crewmember on Reserve Duty will be available for immediate transportation to the next assigned location of duty no later than thirty (30) minutes after being contacted by the Company. Hotel Shows (reserve duty) are sometimes scheduled the night before, but usually are not. You'll get a show at the FBO multiple hours prior to your departure to cover other trips, then later in the evening scheduling looks at coverage and decides they can give you hotel reserve duty. Or the jet you're assigned to isn't available and they're going to have you wait for it. If I woke up and saw I now had a Hotel Show I'd reset my alarm to show at hotel time. In the rare event they changed their mind I'd have to scramble to make it downstairs in 30 minutes. Lot of times we'd bug scheduling to give us just enough hotel duty we could get the free hotel breakfast instead of eating crewfood at the FBO. |
So either you get hotel show or FBO show hours before the trip? Sorry for the elementary questions.

Netjets fills your day with duty one way or another. You won’t just have a bunch of time off somewhere. If they don’t have a flight for you, they will put you on duty at the hotel or FBO. Even if you don’t have an airplane. Every single day you are working, you will be on duty and used by the company somehow someway.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Correct. The days are filled unless you are shifting late to early or early to late... that’s where short days and/or long overnights occur. 22+ hours at times can and does occur. Usually, it’s 12 on, 13 off. 10 hours off happens. 14 hours on happens. It all averages and every minute of duty is coded somehow. Today is 3 hours of hotel duty, then flying later... I walked the SAN Pier and had a great breakfast on duty in plain clothes. Later... two legs on the west coast. Maybe a third of they need us somewhere. The days are manageable if you know how to communicate with crew and company. There’s busy days and not so busy days.... it depends on your fleet and what it can do to recover the schedule if the train comes off the rails. You’re always in control of what your day will entail ultimately. You just don’t know what will happen... but neither does scheduling. That’s the magic of it all that one must accept or reject ultimately. I enjoy the variety personally. |
