The closest "green base" to SMF is OAK or SFO. These bases can change based customer activity and airline schedule changes. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong but I think they review the base criteria every year.

Just to add onto what they said about the "Green bases," they mean only one thing: You can bid for the less-than-7-day-tour schedules. The "Crew Choice" schedules, where your schedule changes month-to-month, are available with a maximum of 8, 7, 6, and 5-day tours, with various limitations that are too complex to get into here. But the 5-day- and 6-day-max schedules are only available to those who are in the "green" bases. All of the other schedules are available at any base, including the 7-on/7-off.

I appreciate the elaboration, CA1900...
Assuming you are in a green base and a new-hire, is there much chance of getting the 6 (or even better) 5 day schedules? QOL and time-off trump pay for me...
In fact, this is a real big motivator to me.

If assigned the Phenom, not much chance in the short term. Maybe after a few bid cycles if movement to other fleets among senior FOs continues your fleet seniority climbs at a reasonable pace. We actually had new hires in the sovereign not too long ago, and all that were eligible and wanted the 5 day max tour option got it. If you want QOL, CC52 is where it's at, although that may be elusive for a time in the Nom. Even with 7 day max tours, the time off more than makes up for the stretch away for most. Taking away 28 days of vacation and training a year, your averaging 10.7 flying days a month max. For those with 4 wks vacation and ability to bid 7 personal days, that's down to 8.9 flying days per month avg. The pay is lowest, by that's pretty dang good QOL.

Not too shabby at all... Thanks for the insight!
So, the other concern is what sounds like very, very distant upgrade opportunities... So, should things remain the same in this regard 5 years down the line.... Where are FO's going from NJ?
Thanks much!

The one thing that is constant is change. We just don't know how and when. My personal opinion is that upgrade time will climb to 13-14 yrs then drop steadily.

Most FOs that leave are going to Delta Alaska united UPS etc.

From my class of 23: Delta, United, Sun Country, Allegiant, FAA, a very small company flying a very large airplane, and a part 91 job. Yes, that is 7 of 23 gone in 2 years.

We have 3 gone in 2 years from our class. With 10 left or so, and 8 of them actively trying to leave. The 3/9 class has been depleted quite heavily.

Upgrades will go down, but it will take a lot for upgrades to get down to 5 years. Those that believe in ponies and balloons with no factual basis for their predictions, think expansion will come in a couple years. That is pure hopeful speculation as the company has made zero indication of expansion, and had made it clear that there will be no expansion for 3 years. So just be prepared to stay the long haul if you come to NetJets.
