While I don't disagree, you can always (and you should) Submit an ASAP report with grandpa's name and the phrase "willful disregard for procedure." That was the report has to be rejected by the committee exposing him to FAA
enforcement action.

Is this a safety issue or not? Does the FAA have ways for people to report safety issues? That's a rhetorical question.

Got to have the balls to tell people in person...just my 5 cents
So if these safety issue reporting systems are supposed to be anonymous, why would I self disclose? So it can be uncomfortable every time I fly with him afterwards? What does telling him have to do with anything? So I tell him I am sending an email to F2F and it creates a crap show for no reason, and in hind sight it did nothing anyway.

It isn't about going behind somebody's back, the essence of the program is to report issues anonymously.

Rhino has a point. If you think it is a safety issue, why on Earth would you NOT tell him to his face? Are you that cold and callous that you don't care about him and the lives of those on his airplane? I've only told one person I was concerned about their ability to cognitively perform this job function. Guess what? He agreed and retired shortly thereafter! We had a tactful and frank discussion. He knew he was slipping and thanked me for calling him out. I told him I could not in good conscience fly with him in that condition nor would I let him continue to fly without notifying whatever authority necessary to either get him help or evaluated for competency. And you know what, he was a "great guy!". But, he had no business in a cockpit any longer.

I never said I didn't tell him. I told him that he couldn't see, that it was an issue, and that he needs to do something about it. I then emailed F2F and said the same thing. Didn't try to get him fired, didn't try to throw him under the bus, didn't try to be malicious.

Previous page, everyone was ready to throw out any unfit or old employee that can't cut it lol...

We have one gummer in the fleet (an Eastern line-crosser as fate would have it) that was turned in for narcolepsy.

He's still falling asleep at random times years later....

He literally is the walking poster child for mandatory retirement.

I did also file an ASAP for the story I referenced. I had to get on the brakes hard or we would have gone off the prepared surface.

Two days prior, we were given a courtesy car to take to the hotel for the night at APA. He insisted on driving and it was late dusk. There was a three lane highway that goes from the FBO to the hotel. The middle lane is reserved as a turn lane. He drove almost the whole way in that turn lane. The car was kicking up A LOT of salt and dirt from the road that remained after a big thaw, since no traffic drives down that lane. It was hilariously loud. Since there was no danger from other traffic, I laughed my a$$ off watching this comedy unfold before me. I told him I don't think he can see at night, and I was right. He was 66 at the time.

Pretty sure he took a medical out like 6 months ago.

You may have approached him with this issue but acc. to your last posting you still didnīt tell him that you turned him in.
And if you actually did tell him like you mention in this post, donīt you think he would have been able to put 2 and 2 together??

I bet your Capt.īs at your new gig would be very happy to know what kind of FO they have sitting next to them....
Make a mistake and Jetlife will fire emails away......oh boy, great...no excellent CRM

Hardly. You don't know the situation or what led up to it. I have watched people make huge mistakes and I have made mistakes. He's the only one I have notified the company about and it was after several agregeous mistakes regarding his inability to literally see at night. I didn't even throw him under the bus in the email. I simply said that his ability to see at night is questionable. Could I have gone to pro standard and totally screwed him over? Yes I could have, but I didn't. My intent is not to do that to anyone, even the 70 year olds who won't load bags, something very severe would have to happen for me to raise the flags.

But this is a perfect example of why these programs suck and nobody does it. Everyone wants to get on a high horse and demand that if you don't report these issues, you are part of the problem, but if you do report issues, you're a jerk because you didn't do it right.

Stop witch hunting.
