Any current Ravn guys able to give some insight on how things are going? I'm a Horizon guy living in Anchorage and would make the switch if people say the QOL is good. Commuting sucks, so home every night seems really appealing. I've got an interview coming up, tips for that would be appreciated as well. Nervous about that transition back to steam after all this glass time...

Default Jumpseat

Hey ya'll looking at jumping on y'all in a few weeks down to ENA. Can your W/B typically accommodate a jumpseater with a full boat? Asking for planning purposes.

On a full boat, chances aren't good, but possible under the right circumstances. Flights haven't been very full lately, and there's about 9 ENA flights a day, each one about two hours apart, so your chances are pretty good. You can probably get it on your first or second try if it's just you. You can list at the ticket counter, at the gate, and possibly ID90, though I haven't checked that recently.

I wouldn't worry about the steam. It's all the same info ultimately. The airline itself may be different then what you're used to - not all the outstations have fuel, deice, GPU available, so you'd have to get used to flying and juggling those things. Most destinations are non-towered. Otherwise, it's worth considering if you're in Anchorage. There's currently some dissatisfaction with compensation and PTO, and some growing resent between line pilots and decisions from up top.

If you're at Horizon, the upgrade may be quick. FOs are eligible for upgrade once they have 1000 hours of 121. The company is even hiring captains off the street. As mentioned above, some ill feelings going on, with good reason, but flying the line is pretty fun usually, in my experience. The pilots and FAs are a good group - nice people who work together and are easy to talk with. Pretty good QOL, home every night, no commuting. Preferential bidding for days off, and AM or PM schedules, all based on seniority of course. Expect 8-10 hour duty days. I'm a current line pilot, and I enjoy it. Feel free to PM for any more questions!

Where are most of the current Ravn pilots going after? Are guys having luck going straight to a major or are they going to larger regionals?

Most are going to Alaska, FedEx, UPS, etc. A move to a lower 48 regional would be a considerable pay cut.

Fedex, Delta, Alaska, Atlas are a few places people move to. Beyond that- some want to stay with Alaska flying and go to Guardian, Security, and now more to Horizon.

Evidently Northern Pacific will be operating on Ravn’s certificate. Your CEO seems to think he will hire a guy into a caravan and then upgrade him all the way to a 75 eventually. Potentially good news for you guys.
