Let me get this straight, PenAir is a complete failure in the Portland and Denver Essential Air Service (EAS) markets; however, they are petitioning the government to add EAS service to the Pribilof Islands (St. Paul and St. George) and McGrath. Not only that, but PenAir is asking that the government "cheese" be given directly to PenAir to prop the company up in bankruptcy, and not to add these locations as EAS routes for any airline/airway to bid on like every other EAS route and subsequent contract. Never forget, that government "cheese" comes out of both of our pockets.

Its not about making them profitable, its about having enough business scence to realize that if the previous opperator couldnt make it work with 1900's what makes you think you can with 340s ? Any one with two brain cells could have figured that out. What ****es me off is how wreckless the ownership is with employees livelyhoods, and lets face it for a "quote " family owned business as pen likes to profess they can care less about there employess. As has been said here before, they have a long history of kicking pilots to the curb with short notice

You too can be wise and informed. It will take a little basic reading comprehension, but I know you can do it!

I know...sometimes those really big words and long sentences can make it hard. Whatever you do, don't give up! Since you are such a good sport, I will get you started on your "path to enlightenment". For example, take the sentence below.
"This allows for the competitive bidding process to keep subsidy costs in check and to give communities and the Department opportunities to switch air carriers if appropriate."
The keys words to understand in this sentence are:
- competitive
- bidding
- subsidy
This will help: https://www.merriam-webster.com
The first step in learning is asking for help! You did and I commend you for that. Let me know if you have any more problems and I will be glad to assist.
Sincerely,
Deadpool

Sounds like Alaska likes the 2,000s and they probably aren't leaving. Here's to hoping A season helps bail us out. For now they aren't planning on letting any pilots go, new hire classes are even happening as planned. I hope it works out, lots of good dudes here, but I have my logbook up to date none the less.

I have been pondering the implications of this article for the past few days. From a business standpoint, I applaud Danny's acumen to leverage the only asset he has, government subsidies. From a taxpayer standpoint, I cringe knowing that my hard earned tax dollars are going to an infantile run "mostly" family owned business.
To be honest with you, I think Danny has a good chance of conning the Federal Government into paying the demanded EAS ransom. In the short term, this cash flow might give PenAir the ability to survive (presumably, unless there is a hidden gem in Chapter 11); however, I believe the DOT cash is a shot of adrenaline in the arm of a strung out junkie. Yep, a prolonged death
