Not that any of this is here nor there, with how fast the government works I'd be surprised if an EAS contract was awarded to anyone by November. I am still surprised we are getting new hires in the door.
It never made sense to me that...well, EAS. I know, EAS is the sacred cow...commence spear chucking!

https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R44176.pdf

Read it, all of it, if you want a factual picture of EAS in Alaska.

Danny Seybert is on record saying that the Ch.11 filing is something that has been in the works for quite a while and he is "quite excited about."

The strategy now is attempting to hold a community hostage for EAS contracts. Judging by how well the EAS contracts and route management worked out for them in PDX/DEN I am inclined to think Ch.11 may not be very well executed either.

For an even darker outlook, see Wikipedia for how many regionals make it out of ch.11. Those that do seem to be acquired or absorbed by parent/major airlines.

Indoctrination has begun....or continued depending on your perspective. I haven't seen it this bad since Baghdad Bob back in '03. Missy Elliot is now on the CASM war path. What is CASM you ask? It is Cost per Available Seat Mile. On the low end, the 2000 is 33% more efficient than the 340. Who in their right mind would keep that old inefficient 340 POS? What in Sam Hill took the company so long to invest in this magnificent profit-producing beast? Whoever made the 2000 call....PURE GENIUS.

In other news, PenAir has filed for bankruptcy.

Haha I thought the same thing when I read that email. She doesn't mention the dispatch rating of the 2000 vs the 340 or the fact that the magical unicorn is always breaking down. The fact that they mention the CASM of the 2000 vs the 340 means the company is doomed to fail because instead of going back to a working business plan with the 340, they will continue to depended on an expensive unreliable airplane that doesn't do the job as well as the 340. Danny will burn PenAir down before he will admit he was wrong, I hope he is ashamed about all the publicity of the bankruptcy news now instead of being "Excited about it". It's management's stupid decisions that affects the lives of hundreds of people that live with tremendous amounts of stress now knowing there job is about to end within 90 days. I bet Orin is really proud of Danny for running his company into the ground.

On a positive note, Danny is personally addressing PenAir employees...although, I would have thought that the IT folks could set the big boss up with his own email address. I guess that may be a bridge too far?

On a negative note, it looks like September 10th will be the last day PenAir operates in their Denver market.

On a negative note, PenAir only owns one 340, so there is very little revenue that can come from downsizing other than terminating leases. We know this because they petitioned the courts to turn away the lease for 677 which was successful.

Unfortunately, Danny's prediction that "there is no pilot shortage" is now a reality for PenAir. Keep your head up though, it is a great time to be a pilot in the aviation industry. Delta alone will hire 1,200 pilots next year. This is proportional throughout the industry, so whatever you do, keep those apps up to date!

Definitely sad to see this happen, and all the employees lose their jobs.

No one is losing their job as far as pilots are concerned...it will be known as a "furlough".

There is more than just pilots. There is all the ground crew, mechanics, etc. But yes, it will probably lead to furloughs.
