Default Want to Get Out of Training Contract?

From our CEO Tim Livingston

Today is another great day at Baker!

I just finished signing 3 upgrade letters for Baker pilots that upgraded from SIC to PIC.

Its fun to think about the future these guys have ahead of them at baker.

I was checking some YTD pay numbers for PICs that have been with us all year and they are all above $220k as of Nov 28th pay. Most are above $250k for the year already, and one is above $300k already.. in November

Its wild to think that 3.5 years ago when I took over Baker everyone was paying a flat salary of about $140k per year, no imagination, no growth, and **** benefits. I implemented incentive based pay against everyone's recommendation in the industry. 3 years later we have guys making what some airline Captains make all while using their 21 days PTO to take several 3 week long vacations and still flying 700-800 hours in a year.

On top of the CASH Baker pays for your benefits 100%. Healthcare, 401K, ESOP Retirement Plan and more. Why work somewhere that you have to give your hard earned money back to the company.. for anything..

And on top of all that - No training agreement. We don't want people working for us that don't want to be here. Its that simple. People often say "what if they don't like it here and quit after 2 months .. bla bla bla." I would counter with the following: what if they don't like it here and they STAY. You cannot put a dollar amount on the damage that a disgruntled "trapped" employee can do to your business. And if you read all this and you want to to work at baker if we hire you we will reimburse you for any costs incurred due to a training agreement at your old job. Lets realign the industry and get the A players setup with the A level employee ownership that Baker offers.

Anyway - Congrats guys - I want to see pictures of the new houses and cars this next year!

Also - Baker Aviation is Hiring Citation X and Challenger 300 PICs and SICs.

Talking Bizarre

This is one of the most bizarre posts/advertisements I’ve ever seen. You’re actually trying to sell your company on having no training contract which is like inviting Nosferatu over for Christmas. What could go wrong, right? Every Ne’er-do-well will jump on this and companies themselves will use and abuse you as a training ground. Just some advice, but I’d take this post down. You’re only asking for trouble here on APC. You might not think so but you’ll see. “Free training and no contract, when can I start”? Will be heard across the 91/135 great land of hours! Does the CEO know you put this on a public forum?

It looks like you’re quite busy convincing people to come to Baker. You’re all over the WWW. Why? Why is it you are pushing so hard almost everyday to sell Baker to the masses. Just observation but sound like a salesman trying to convince people on getting the clear coat! Push, Push, Push! It’s a bit much. You should not have to work so hard if Baker is that great. Word of mouth would do it and you’d be better off with internal references than not knowing anyone from the outside but hope they work out?

Look at Wheels Up and Jet-It and what happened when they grew too fast and ran ad after ad. Nothing against you or Baker but you sound too aggressive. If you know anything about the Iceberg Metaphor it’s not what you see above the water it’s what’s below that should concern you. Yes, you’re the Iceberg.

How desperate are you to get people to work for you? After reading this, it would be interesting to know the truth about this company

The TRUTH is that this is a savvy marketing campaign by Baker to help the company grow enough to crew the 20+ Challenger 300's coming from Flexjet, and to attract qualified and great employees, who are otherwise burdened by a training contract elsewhere. WIN-WIN... How is this any different from the Statue of Liberty's inscription "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free", welcoming those less fortunate? ! You only need to know that Baker's leader offered to cover the salaries of his military Skill Bridge interns during the Government shutdown to know what type of company Baker is! Part 135 WITH class. Touche', Chase!

It's called recruiting. Simply because Baker advertises no contract doesn't mean they're obligated to hire everyone that applies. The fact is that a lot of operators have no training contract and offer cost-free training, including most airlines. My last 121 new hire group lost multiple people who took the training and ran. It happens. In fact, I've been in training at 121 operators and had others tell me they're just there biding time until XXX calls...they were planning to take the training and run. The industry will always have a certain number of dishonorables...which is why some operators have training contracts in the first place.

What's ironic is that when operators do have training contracts, the general sentiment is that if the operator was worth a dill pickle, they wouldn't need a training contract. Now, and operator advertises that they don't have one, and they catch flack for that. Go figure.

You have to get hired first to take advantage of us.. And I/We read every single post on every forum and facebook comments.. Its the best weed out. While the boat hoes are busy making noise in public the guys that want the job and know they can meet the call are quietly getting hired, going to training, and taking home the fat checks while racking up 2 retirements. Just so you know, your comments here don't pay your bills whereas Chase's efforts online to share about Baker does in fact help pay the bills for the entire company.

And if you read all this... and want to come to baker, if we hire you and you have a training contract we will reimburse you if you incur costs associated with that when you come to baker! We are committed to recruiting the A players with A level compensation and employee ownership.

Enjoy!

Chase has also said they cut people fairly quickly if they don't think the newbie is hacking it. So if they're weak, or tough to work with, they can't hide that forever and apparently Baker would rather cull the herd sooner than hope that person leaves. I think a lot of us would prefer that type of operation because we know how detrimental a few negative people can be on an operation. Now the person, who knew they were probably reaching too far, is back on the street with a 'fired' on their resume. It's not a great look for the next job. That right there, hopefully, should cut down on some of the applicants that they're trying to sift through.

I am definitely looking forward to getting my TBNT email, if I even get one. I’d love a fractional/corporate gig, contract or no really. Biding my time long enough in the CFI side while my son makes his way through HS. Unfortunately, choosing the “be there for him” life has prevented me from pursuing or moving for a jet/turboprop gig. One day, for sure! Chase…keep advocating for your company!

I'd love to work for a company that activity stalks my on line activities, and if I struggle in training at all immediately cuts me loose.

I'm sure there won't be any issues with doubling their fleet with a bunch of clapped out frac airplanes won't cause any issues or anything....
