Unless you are sitting right next to your roommate inhaling the smoke, you won't get stoned and you won't test positive.
As far as medicinal marijuana, it is called Marinol and comes in 10mg tablets. It is prescribed for cancer patients that are experiencing extreme nausea and loss of appetite. I have never heard of it prescribed in a smoking form. I think your roommate might be full of $h!t that telling you it is prescribed.

It is legal to perscribde to smoke in California. There are "pharmacy's" all over the place. The problem is that it's federally against the law. The local law enforcement can't act, but the federal guys usually come in and shut everone down and haul them off. Last time I was walking Venice beach, there was a guy at the bottom of some stair yelling "The doctor is in, come and get your perscription." Me and my wife thought that was hailarious.
