Default Part 135 VFR

Does anyone know of any part 135 operators that operate using VFR instead of IFR?

Well, many can operate VFR or IFR. Mine you have to be on a filed/activated flight plan, meaning IFR or VFR. Are you refering to strictly VFR ops? There's several scenic tour type's out west that do those, not sure of any names off-hand, but that's where you'd find them. Not sure about Alaska ops, some of them I imagine they do the same.

Default Vfr

When I could meet VFR mins, the place I worked offered me a VFR 135 checkride at the FSDO in a 310. It was really an IFR check, because you are expected to be able to handle unforcast weather and do an approach.
While I got to fly to airports big and small, I usually flew day trips, and a IFR qualified pilot was on standby to cover for me if the weather was not good. It was cool to be VFR, going direct to everywhere.

Grand Canyon Airlines. You'll live in a dorm, eat Ramen and fly twin otters...oh yeah...there's nothing but tourists to screw, if you're lucky, because the nearest towns are 80 miles away and they're filled with squaws. But that's Part 135 VFR all day long brother. Could be fun.

I was thinking more like part 135 hiring requirements. I know its 500 TT for VFR ops, and some 1200 for IFR. Just researching any places where I could fly at with less than 1000 hrs.

Alaska is where it is at for flying under 1000 hours and VFR. Heck, some places will hire you under 500 hours. A lot of 135s up here are certified to fly VFR without a flight plan as long as the aircraft is Capstone (ADS-B) equipped (and many are). The only requirement is for someone in the dispatch office to keep an eye on your progress on their integrated computer program. There is one guy (who has the IFR rating) who hasn't flown IFR for the company in over 10 years and he still seems to me a profitable asset for them. My company is hiring but I prefer to keep my anonymity in the forum. Just keep your eyes open. What kind of qualifications do you have?

Anyone know about the minimums for Grand Canyon Airlines. I send my resume and didn't hear anything back. I have heard they want 1000 TT and 100 multi.

Any comments would be nice

Thanks

Default Grand Canyon Airlines

GCA was looking for 1000 / 100 when I was flying the canyon a couple of years ago, and they were pretty tight on those numbers unless you could get a resume walked in. That may have loosened up a bit though as they try to grow. You could also try Air Grand Canyon ( C-207's). None pay very well, but it would be PIC time in the 207's although it isn't turbine. You could also look up American Aviation out of Salt Lake City. They did have a tour operation in Page, Arizona and took many 500 hour pilots to fly the 206, 207 and 172, however, it used to be a fairly questionable operation.

As far as Alaska, just do a search and many things should pop up. L.A.B Flying service in Juneau seems to always look for people, but I have heard that the management is not great. Good Luck on your search!

You do a good job keeping your anonymity when you list what you fly and there is only one company in the entire United States let alone Alaska that recieved a Standard Airworthy for that Plane.

I dont know if these guys are still in operation but Sun Western Flyers out of Phoenix I believe flew/flys 135 VFR in old piper lances...which I believe, if I heard correctly, came from the Ameriflight fleet. I know they were hiring back in May of '06...but thats all I got.
