ACE is one of the best companies for low time pilots to get hours and experience. It's hardball, IFR/VFR 135 in Alaska. If you work there, you'll work long days on little sleep, throwing boxes, loading and unloading, and for a small paycheck. That being said, it's one of the fastest career building jobs there is, and a mostly decent place to work.
Robbie, the chief pilot is a decent guy, kind of a rarity in that position. If you go in as a low time applicant, make it really clear that you understand you'll be working terrible shifts, you won't have any problem throwing boxes and working hard, and you're excited to have the opportunity to learn from the best. He gets lots of low time applications, so you'll have to do your best to stand out.

ACE is a great place to build turboprop experience and guys from there have a lot of credibility with the ANC cargo operators like Lynden, NAC and Everts Air Cargo.
That experience wouldn't hurt you if you wanted to go to Alaska Airlines, either. They LOVE guys with Alaskan flying experience.

The idea of flying with ACE is extremely exciting, is there any chance anyone still with ACE might be interested in helping move my resume along in the stack. I applied with ACE a week ago and email the CP but haven't heard anything back yet. Long days, flying across Alaska is a dream for me.

I wouldn't go there. They told my son that he needed a covid vaccine as a condition of employment in a phone interview. He went out and got one and then they ghosted him. Come to find out that the flight school that he worked for asked them not to steal their talent. Meanwhile they hire the rampers and out of state people instead of qualified Alaskans. I could see Ace honoring the flight school's request if they had money invested in him. It's kind of sad that qualified Alaskans have to look elsewhere.

You're absolutely right. I'm just suffering from a little Injustice syndrome watching. 1800hrs and ATP/CTP and the only way you can get hired there now is to quit instructing and throw boxes or turn wrenches. If you have a fresh multi engine commercial and your willing to gamble your time as a ramper waiting for a seat it's a hell of a deal.

Are there no other prospects in the area? Seems like an Alaskan shouldn’t have a hard time finding a flying job in Alaska?

Right now its actually better in the lower 48. Ryan and Alleutian are done hiring for the spring. He's getting interest from the big regionals but the Alaskan multi engine turbine stuff is really dried up. Horizon is looking for pilots in Anchorage But they want 200hrs of 135 crew type flying to be considered. Raven is in trouble. ACE is running a March class but its made up of all internal hires. Its bleak up here.
