Also your inaccurate on there being only 7 upgrades on the next bid. We’re short 7 captains with the bid that just closed. So it’ll be 7+ how ever many people flow and leave before the next permanent bid. Also we have at least 4 more aircraft coming.

Anyone hired tomorrow, plan on spending 6-10 months in training. They don't have any solutions because management was/is behind the curve on hiring new instructors to replace the ones that flow'd to AA.
The instructors that are training right now will be gone inside of 18 months and the ones the company is training now, they believe will be a cure for the ones they lost in the last 6 months. This management team believes that once they fill a vacancy it will stay full until it opens up again and then they will fill it again. There is zero foresight to hire a few more than they need right now for later...
After you're finished with new hire training at PDT plan to spend some time on reserve. You will not make more than 75 hours a month on reserve.
Charlotte will stay full for a while because PDT had more base closures in the previous 2 years that were close to CLT than they had near PHL. Over half of the pilot group at the moment is commuting to PHL and they don't want to be there. Keep in mind that all the new hires ahead of you will choose their base before you do. A prudent person would assume half of them are going to want CLT.
Don't plan on a DCA domicile opening. Yes there's rumors, but don't make a decision about your career based on rumors...

Perpetually understaffed, training dept is always "working its way through the backlog", proper staffing is always right around the corner.
Lyle Hogg was going to be the change this place needed. I chuckle when I think of how optimistic we all were.
This is the airline that existed before you got hired here, and you knew what you were getting into. We're pretty vocal about it on here.
Same as it ever was.....

PSA vs PDT
Can someone breakdown for me why the QOL at PSA is better than Piedmont for pilots in the CLT area? Also, what is SAP?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Having PSA co-located in bases doesn’t do Piedmont many favors in the recruitment department as flow has become so long for NHs that QOL becomes the greatest differentiation between the two companies and PSA wins hands down thanks to SAP.
However, an added benefit for PDT if a DCA base materializes is they’ll be able to pull in more 145 qualified Trans States pilots that were based there and don’t wish to relocate or fear their companies future as well as CommutAir Pilots whose careers have stagnated as a result of not passing one of the many CPP hurdles with United. It’s likely that most of that potential group would be DEC eligible which would be useful in helping to address PDTs captain shortage since appreciable pay raises are off the table.

Piedmont does not allow schedule flexibility of that nature. Plan on 4 days on and 2 days off with the occasional one day or three days off to bring you to 11 days off each month. Each trip credits 4hrs/ day on avg.
Long term, line holders at PSA who have SAP have a much better QOL than line holders at PDT.
CLT is a little bit of an enigma because it’s PSAs senior base in both seats and will take a while to be a line holder there (something like 9-12 months for FOs who are then forced upgrade to Captain in a junior outstation base once they hit 1000hrs and take until year 3 or so to be a line holder as a CA back in CLT- once again check with the PSA folks). Meanwhile PDT new hires can hold it before they’re complete with training and DECs are the junior captain in CLT at Piedmont. Also PDTs training center is in CLT so there are opportunities to leave line flying and still work in CLT.
The way things currently are, after three years on property a line holder at PSA in CLT will have a higher quality of life thanks to scheduling flexibility afforded by SAP. It remains to be seen how much the PSA operational presence in CLT will be decreasing after the 2018 meltdown and their 24 CRJ200s are removed from service. If AA decides to maintain status quo and simply upgauge the routes served by those 200s with the Envoy 700s PSA is getting or their new 900s then things may remain the same. If AA decides to give the rest of the 50 seat flying in CLT to PDT or bring in a third regional to cover lift, then It could take far longer than it does today to be a line holding CA in CLT able to take advantage of SAP.

Base seniority?
SAP is gold, I can tell you that much being a line holder at PSA. Crew Planning butcher my original FEB line award due to training and having a trip in the blend.
I was able to repair my FEB schedule completely with SAP and got all of the days off that needed off..... It’s seriously awesome.
But I wouldn’t come to PSA wanting CLT unless you are ok being on reserve for a hot minute then commuting to one of other bases as a junior CA until you can hold CLT as a CA then you’ll be on reserve for even more....
