There are currently 705 pilot total on our seniority list.
490 line qualified pilots available to bid means that 215 pilots on our seniority list are in a different status than ready to work the line. New hires awaiting training, flows to AA left on our seniority list until they pass training at AA, simulator instructors, ground instructors, management positions (Chief Pilot, Chief of Instruction, Fleet Captain, etc.), and Leave of Absence (military or family medical leave of absence, etc).
There are about 130 lines to bid for in PHL and 58 lines to bid for in CLT. Each lines requires Captain and a First Officer. 2 line qualified pilots.
So 266 for PHL and 116 for CLT. But wait there’s more.
PHL will have 12 build up lines and CLT will have 10.
So 24 more for PHL and 20 more for CLT.
290 for PHL and 136 for CLT.
That leaves 64 pilots both Captain and First Officer left available to bid reserve or be put on reserve due to lack of seniority.
I am not bright enough to know what the proper reserve to covered line ratio is.....
Hope that helps.

Sounds like a 1 for 4, and those build up lines don't count, as it is nothing more than a Reserve getting a line early for the month in question (and varies each month). 1 for 4 (or a 25% Reserve Population) is normal/reasonable.....based off your numbers, it equates to 27% Reserve Coverage

So did PDT hire anyone in DEC?
As of today, the seniority list does not show anyone hired in DEC. I have to wonder if that's intentional because flow+attrition may have caused an overall decrease in the number of pilots vs those hired. Did PDT drop below 700?
