I agree with you in spirit, Sgt., but when you hit fifty(-plus) the game changes. Now I often wind up with a sore (fill-in-the-blank) and say exactly that! Sometimes it's best to stand down. Still make it most days, though!

Weight tables have special procedures for those who have extra muscle mass. But be aware that a few airlines (particularly overseas) may go strictly by weight/height with no allowance for buff americanos.

That is a refreshing advance in medical science. Haven't seen one of those in common use, though. I'm not saying they don't exist - I just don't know of any. Is there one online you could point to? I'd like to have a look.

Agreed, you likely won't see one for your Korean medical exam, or so I've heard!

BMI....would be a better tool ... but frankly some people just have good genes. I am a fairly big guy ( was on BMI waivers in the military ) played football in HS and one year of college.... and even now at 260 , just had my 1st class.... pulse...48, BP 120/55, ( cholesterol screen total of 174 ).... albeit I do go to the gym.. and jog a few days a week.....Doc said I was healthy as a horse.

If you do not want to run or the weather will not allow it there is always a gym at your disposal.

Its hard to drag myself out on the streets after a long day but no one ever looked back on their day and said "I sure wish I didnt work out today."
This is from from Runners World magazine: (I'm paraphrasing)

"I sometimes dread having to go out and run, but I've never dreaded having gone out for a run when I'm finished."

I remember doing my chamber retread at Little Rock several years ago. This was during Gen. McPeak's reign. We were getting the old "lean mean fighting machine" drill. The instructor, on a break, pulled out some videos of G-load pilot testing. The instructor was the fire plug solid type that was all muscle. He had commented about the use of the body fat testing and the inconsistencies of fit standards. In the video, they were showing G tolerance vs. body type. The thin runners were early outs, but the short stocky guys pulled higher numbers. One of the last clips was of the instructor pulling some of the highest numbers recorded at Wright-Patterson.

Everybody likes the lines of the greyhound, but its the stocky pug that does the work!

That is great if you are a F-16 driver, but for the rest of us, it is better (healthier) to be trim and in good cardiovascular shape, with decent muscle tone.

If there ever is a "standard" then 5'10" and 200 pounds won't even be CLOSE to a problem. Otherwise about 75% of us over-40 pilots would be grounded, and I don't think that's going to happen. Hope you can find a workout program that suits you, though.
