Default CLT economy hotels for commuter or training

Looking for updated information regarding experiences at CLT with some of the economy hotels. . . Needing several nights this month and will definitely go over the $250 mark. I see some of the lower priced hotels with decent reviews but would prefer a personal experience from someone.

Second question, can you use the commuter clause for hotels during training events?

I have used the wyndham garden in the past. I think its like 50-55 out the door. I think its the best bang for your buck crew rate in CLT.

What about the possibility of living in Asheville and commuting to either CLT or TYS? It's just a hair over two hours drive to either location and there's also a route from AVL to CLT. Can anyone provide input? Appreciate it.

[My opinion is that] a reliable two-hour drive beats commuting by air. CLT gives you more options when off reserve... Plus, for that once-a-month ungodly early show, you can always drive in the night before and use your commuter hotel $$$...

Those early shows are frequent at TYS unless you bid around them or SAP out of them.

1-hour SCR at TYS means you either commute in every day and basically put yourself on hot reserve, or find a crash pad. If you can realistically drive to CLT, park, and get through security in under 2 hours, that would be your best bet. Otherwise, which one gets you on LCR or better the quickest?

I love driving, but I hate driving I-40 at night from TYS to AVL. If you've never done it, I highly recommend doing it on a nice wet/windy night to see if you want to do it every day/week.

CLT would definitely work better. The best driving route to CLT runs south of the airport so it might make a shorter drive with less I-26 road construction to deal with, if you live south of the airport, like near Hendersonville. Traffic heading into Charlotte from Gastonia in the morning on weekdays is treacherous, and I think it was mentioned to use the commuter hotel for morning showtimes. The flights are pretty good, but do get cancelled occasionally and at peak times, like summer, leaf season, and during the solar eclipse they were heavily booked.

Are you talking about the one just out the airport entrance? They seem to always quote $79. Or is there another one?

Concerning the Wyndham Garden by the Mens Club, tell them you're American Airlines, it's about $10 cheaper than what they offer PSA.

Default Easiest Commute

As a guy about to commute from MIA/FLL (I’m halfway between them) what base would be the easiest commute (top 2 or 3 if so inclined).

Thanks in advance.
