Just curious -- I presently live in NJ but like most sane people I want to get out ASAP.

Say I come to PSA and get my local base (PHL) initially. I move to CLT once I can hold at least SCR as an FO there (less than a year it appears).

But then, say after 6-12 months in CLT I am force upgraded, which requires me to commute to reserve. All other things being equal, would it be easier to commute from CLT or another outlying base like PHL? I guess what I'm asking is whether I am more likely to get commuter-friendly flights out of CLT vs a smaller base like PHL and therefore whether it makes more sense to move to CLT sooner rather than later.

Generally speaking, without a detailed comparison of schedules and such, commuting to any of our bases out of CLT would be marginally easier compared to PHL, only because there's more PSA metal flying out of CLT to various outstations, and you would have priority over any offline jumpseater on PSA metal.

Now, if you wanted to move somewhere else that was an easy drive to DCA, PHL, ORF, or heaven forbid, DAY/CVG, then life becomes even easier. As you can see on the last Base Update posted by MaCrOs, holding CLT as a CA could be a while.

I can see from the data that I may wind up being stuck in NJ (PHL, really) for about three years. But if the CA SCR times remain where they are (long shot I know, but possible) I might be able to upgrade at roughly 1.5 years and do my time on CA reserve in base, which is a huge positive.

I was going to say something to the effect of "To the Pit of Misery!" but the reality is TYS is a pretty nice place.

Just wait until they announce CAK...

(It's the only serious outstation MX base we seem to be missing. I suspect that as our fleet grows, we could end up the sole AA operator there...To all the hubs (CLT, PHL, DCA, LGA, and even eventually ORD)...)

Having looked at the geographical distribution of our pilots before, there's enough in PIT, CLE, and the eastern side of CMH to comfortably mostly staff a CAK domicile.

But then there would be no more Ramada + Fox & Hound Overnights, oh the horror!

Okay, I've heard rumblings of this but I'm now officially curious -- does PSA have long term plans to close CLT? Where is the flying going? PDT?

You have already over assumed. Your first question is, does PSA have long term plans. The answer is, no one knows.

Fox and Hound shut their doors couple of months ago.
