Things can change rapidly in the regional segment, but it's likely ORF won't ever be as desirable as a domicile that can be a single-leg commute, as a result, it's less likely you have to worry about being forced out.

If PSA chooses to close it as a maintenance base in 5 years or so, then that domicile will likely close as well.

Best wishes with your decision.

You will have no issues getting ORF and keeping it. In terms of stability, it will be here until the company decides to close the base.

If you aren't retiring from the Navy, find and read TheDude86's (I think it was his, at least) posts explaining the financial difference between us and Endeavor and start a great career at Endeavor.

If you are retiring from Active Duty as an officer, do what's best for your QOL and family. The Norfolk base should be around for a while and stay fairly junior.

Norfolk is where everyone is getting forcibly rebased.

If that’s your briar patch, PSA is a great place.

I’ll try to find the link.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of military folk and maybe a few former Air Wisconsin people have already come here for Norfolk. While I think it will remain somewhat junior I would guess that there are plenty of FOs here that would like to remain in ORF. I think there are enough of them on property now to fill most If not all of the Round 1 lines there. I have a feeling it will always remain easy to get into ORF, but you might be stuck on reserve for quite awhile since most of the future ORF Round 1 line holders are already on property.

I’m retiring as an “O”. Endeavor looks great, good pay and seems commuter friendly but to me, it doesn’t outweigh the possibility/benefit of being based where I can wait at home on reserve and drive to & from work once on line. Thanks & I’ll check out Dude’s post.

I’ll be about an hour & 15 minutes from Norfolk. They told us it’s a 2 hour callout for short reserve but I guess it could change? I also heard some of the lines were daily turns which would kind of suck for that drive but I could potentially SAP out of that.
