Default Credit Rating

Will poor credit affect me getting hired at the regionals or majors? Full disclosure. I went through a divorce a few years ago and my credit took a hit. My ex had run up some credit cards in both our name and they went into collections and she was awarded our family home which she stopped paying for. So long story short my credit suffered. Everything has been resolved since.

No... no company looks at that. They check your FAA records and criminal records, that’s all

I wouldn’t say that definitively. Most employers can and do look at those reports.

As for the bigger picture, given the high demand for regional pilots, I doubt it would be a deal breaker at that level. At the majors, it could be used as a discriminator if they’re on the fence about hiring you.

Because no pilot ever has been ruined financially either by the economy or their ex. Yes they can use it as a factor until the supply dries up. However, this career has been known to destroy people's finances. To the OP: apply and get a job. We need you (esp if you're an instant CA upgrade).

The airlines BK like clockwork.

That’s why circumstances and context matter. Credit reports are just a piece of the puzzle that HR must figure out.

If anything it may be brought up in the HR portion of the interview, just to see why it is the way it is. If you’re open and honest about what happened it won’t even be an issue.

I have no problem with that. I can’t ask for much more.

Kinda like the “pot calling the kettle black”. How can they sit there with a strait face and needle some poor guy about that when the airlines do bankruptcies like some folks change underwear.

It would be real hard not to bust out laughing in the interview.

Really.

Just wait till the REAL bloodbath starts. You’ll suddenly see all these lofty requirements bite the bullet. 2020 ish.

In my interview they never asked, and I’ve not signed a consent to have my credit run. I don’t think it’s a big deal. If there’s a concern with my credit, PSA’s not the one concerning.
