Dear Piedmont Pilots:

I am pleased to share that Piedmont and your ALPA leadership team have reached a tentative agreement that will be the largest pilot recruitment and retention package in our company’s history. Today’s announcement offers current pilots and new pilots increased stability in an industry rocked by uncertainty over the past 18 months. This package represents not only a large financial commitment, but a commitment to building a sustainable Piedmont Airlines that will carry us well into the future and ensures that American Airlines will have a steady pipeline of pilots for years to come.

Highlights of the package include:
  • A $30,000 retention bonus paid in November to all current captains. Current and new first officers will receive $30,000 upon successful upgrade to captain.
  • $70,000 to pilots who flow to American Airlines starting with our September flow pilots.
The opportunity to earn an additional $50,000 ($25,000 per year for two years) for meeting a threshold of working hours.
  • Increased pay rates for first officers and captains to enhance Piedmont’s competitive position
  • An enhanced flow agreement that will allow us to send additional pilots to American when attrition and hiring targets are met
I would like to thank Brandon Lighty and our ALPA MEC for their cooperation as we worked to put this package in place. Throughout the pandemic, the company and ALPA have worked together to protect Piedmont pilots from furlough and meet the demands of the operation in an ever-changing environment. Our ability to out-perform all other American Airlines regionals, take on flying when necessary and deliver a safe product to our customers is what led to this significant investment. Any pilot who flies for Piedmont now, or chooses Piedmont in the future, will have a solid future with our company and eventually an opportunity with American Airlines if they wish to flow.

Our communications and recruiting teams are currently getting up to speed and will release more information soon.

Remember that the $10,000 referral bonus is in place, and there has never been a better time to refer a pilot to Piedmont. New hires will receive some additional incentives, including a type rating bonus and a Part 121 experience bonus. Find referral information here on MyPiedmont.

Thank you for the work you’ve done to bring Piedmont to this point, and for caring for our team members and customers each day. We are proud to offer this opportunity to our pilots and look forward to the contributions each of you will make to Piedmont’s continued success.

Enjoy 👋

So I love how PSA shafted all the new hires from February - June with no $15K bonus and decided July was the cut off. Clearly, funds are not an issue. PSA's new $30k+ retention bonus is nothing worth sticking around for. First major that calls, go... don't be suckered into this carrot on a stick people

I hate to tell you, but welcome to aviation. There will always be some that get shafted and lose out due to the cutoffs (like the soon to be flowing to AA pilots possibly).

How about those that didn't get signing bonuses to join PSA? And then the amount kept increasing over the years. Does it suck if you didn't get one? Absolutely. But, you are now flowing to AA or already have. It's all relative in the scheme of things. I could point out more examples, but let's not. Sometimes you are the bug, sometimes the windshield.

It's amazing how we might be given some good news and pilots still find a way to criticize it. As an older pilot who has seen it all, I'm LMAO.

I would rather they put those funds into hourly pay vs a bonus they can stop when they feel like it. There's a reason they put the extra funds as a bonus vs increasing wages.

Well they have already increased the hourly wages
since I have been here without changing the contract (as it's up in 2023). So let's wait to see the agreement first as there might be extra wages for all I know. Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth.

But, this bonus has a purpose. It's to stop the bleeding of pilots (specifically Captains) from the regionals. It's now the pilot shortage (at the regionals) that is changing everything.

Training

What’s the training footprint looking like these days? Any delays or anything?

Current new hires can expect ~5 weeks in Dayton. No delays between day 1 of Indoc and KV. However, about a 4-6 week delay following KV (oral) at this time before being sent off to sim training (about 2-3 weeks in training). Not a bad time to relax and do some light studying (and potentially get some use out of jumpseating/non rev travel) while still collecting min guarantee pay.

I was told exact same as of last week(8/25). Offered 11/8 class date.

more like 6-8 week wait for sims and you’ll have to redo your KV a second time
