Year zero - you are junior to everyone so you are on reserve
year one - you are junior to almost everyone, still on reserve
year two - lots of FO’s junior to you, but the brand new fo’s hired six months before you are captains now
year three - again all the riddle rat’s have turned 23 and can upgrade. You are still among the most junior captain on property

The FO and Captain seniority lists are not separate, so every FO on property before you came in as a DEC will be senior to you whenever they upgrade. So you'll need to be cool with watching yourself sit on the bottom of the Captain list for at least 2 years before you actually start to see new upgrades come in junior to you.

It sounds like the problem they're having is that they have a bunch of FOs that don't have the legal qualifications for upgrade. 1000 121, etc. Once those FOs get their 1000 hours, they upgrade, but in the company they are senior to you as a DEC because they have been in the company longer than you as a new captain, even if you went straight to the left seat. When they upgrade they actually lower your seniority as a captain. Hell you could be holding a line as a DEC, then a bunch of FOs that are more senior to you in the company overall upgrade and you get booted straight back down to reserve. Unless you just want the PIC time, find your happiness from hanging around the airport on reserve, or just like being at work all the time, and don't care about QOL, being a DEC is a pretty raw deal from the looks of it. Me personally having the 1000 hours of 121 time would be interested in PSA because of their new hire signon bonus and the CRJ type bonus and it seems like the FO reserve time isn't too too long based on what people here have said, but I would stay away and wouldn't want to be forced into the DEC category simply because I value QOL and don't want to have 11 days off on reserve for five years. I rather sit in the right seat and upgrade when my seniority would give me a line.
