I wonder what prevented them from announcing this in Montreal last week.

Well let's consider that:
PSA has 1100 pilots right now and originally had a mix of 49 CRJs. Plus 30 900s. Plus 47 700s. Plus 24 900s.
So total fleet now going to 150 aircraft.

Figure 13 pilots per plane, so 1950 pilots total. If it is only 11 pilots per plane like many other regionals right now, 1650. So at best, 850 pilots more is what they need, 550 at worst. That is right seat hiring my friend.

Let's say you get hired today, your class date will be some time around late April, seniority around 1250. When will you make Captain? You need to get to number 925, or 325 numbers right? PSA said their attrition was around 100 last year. Let's say this year they get an increase in flow and their attrition is 150. It will take a little over 2 years to upgrade. That isn't too bad. Every month will add another year to upgrade basically.

The super fast, less than a year upgrade, going on for people in he right spot right now, IS gone. PSA will have a decent upgrade if hired before may or so, IMHO.

If you already have 1000 sic OR certain Militay/135 time to count towards the sic requirement then the "super fast, less than a year upgrade" is NOT gone. In fact, our current upgrade is at 6 months (April 2014 new hire). This is going to continue for some time as well.

If you are someone who does not currently meet these requirements then a realistic upgrade projection would be 18-24 moths. Keep in mind this is still one of the fastest upgrades in the regionals today. Only attrition to American was mentioned. What about every other Legacy, Cargo, LCC, Fractional, and Overseas that are all hiring? Not all PSA pilots are holding out for American....

You math is way off, you have not taken into account those that will not have their 1000 sic time or even those that do have it but feel they need more time in the right seat or just like being a senior FO. There will also be something called attrition that you have not counted for either. My buddy is a sim instructor here, they are being told that that quick upgrades will be around for quite some time and anyone with the required time can expect a 6-8 month upgrade for the next two years and now probably well into 2017. For anyone else you will basically be able to hold a spot in the next upgrade class when you hit 1000 hrs. In just the last two upgrade bids the jr captain spot went from March to August 2014. It is amazing how many people come on here to try and dispute the short upgrade time over here without knowing any of the facts. The staffing needed for aircraft deliveries is about 700 pilots in 2015 and 700 more in 2016 and probably 500ish in 2017 for attrition and the rest of the 700s. The stupid short upgrades have only started.......

Ahh, by the fact that you have used absolutely no numbers or anything, simply waved your magic wand as you spit drivel, I see we have attracted a used car salesman, uh Pilot "duper", to the discussion.

Okay I will bite that it may be a bit faster if you already have the time. However, then you just conclude that it WILL be 18-24 months otherwise. I presented actual numbers as to why it would be a little over 2 years, at BEST, if hired today. You just waved a wand and presented no actual reasoning.

As for attrition, well now you just proved you either have the attention span of an ant, or don't read well: I said PSA admitted attrition of 100 last year. No where did I say it was just from flow. At 4 per month, only 48 was flow. The other 52 was not flow. I then added 50 more with the modest assumption that you will be granted more flow this year, making 150.

I could go on but you have already probably stopped to look at a squirrel.

If you are reading this though, I hope you are not a christian person, because lying, especially to make others lives worse, will ensure your soul burns in hell. Generally, I have found car salesman to have already sold their souls though.

Omg!!! You are making me laugh. Yeah because so many young guys are like "gee I'm just not ready for the left seat! I'd like to keep going as an FO, making 20 some grand instead of 70-80 some grand". Yeah I'm sure those numbers are so significant to make my numbers "way off".

But but but a SIM INSTRUCTOR told me MANAGEMENT said! Bwauahahahahahahahaha

You do realize, in order to upgrade pilots, you have to have pilots under them to replace the FO seat.
Hiring 700 pilots this year alone will be improbable. I'm willing to bet the orders will be canceled, delayed, or sent to an airline that can staff. So bank on stagnation or shrinkage. Hope for growth. I don't think you will see any regional able to grow in this environment.
