Depends on who's asking. To the uninitiated I just say "American", since people easily understand that concept. It's a whole lot easier than saying "I fly for PSA Airlines" which inevitably gets me a blank stare, so I always have to add "It's a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines, so basically we're a subcontractor that provides regional flying for American..."

Hence why I just say "American"

AWAC is the second oldest US carrier to have never declared bankruptcy, behind only Alaska. They are over 50 years old and still going strong. My concerns for them are their owners deciding at the end of the end of the 5 year deal to close shop or (more likely in my mind) we see consolidation at the regional level as the shortage becomes worse. That's dependent on the 1500 hour and age 65 rules remaining as they are. AWAC's owners have more than enough cash to buy several regionals several times over so I think they are positioned well once they have to start spending their bread.

I spent 9 awesome years there. They are managed well but keep strategic information close to the their chest. The next big thing will be securing their next pilot contract.

Why is that? Newbie here and know nothing about either one.

Edit: I just saw a video on their Youtube channel dated March 1 '17 where they are announcing an Atlanta base so I see this is a recent thing.

Why is that, y'all are only swapping from American to United, not growing at all. CommutAir is tripling in size, 2nd best FO pay rates out there among regionals, sign on bonus of up to $15k.

What does AWAC have going besides being saved from closing its doors by getting a contract flying United feed?

I do. Nothing wrong with that. If I tell them envoy they would basically say, '....oh those puddle jumpers???'

BecUse when you say "hey baby I'm a pilot" they're thinking for a real airline not a puddle jumper. It's ok if your ok with it

Great health insurance, duty/trip rigs, trip touching (turn your 7 day primary into 21 days off), up to 8% 401k match, training dept that actually knows the aircraft, stable 50 year history. Off the top of my head.
My buddy is regretting jumping ship for there, as are others who went to Endeavor, etc.
