By the way, I am in so way saying that "undercutting" is wrong.... it's a free market (well, kind of) and the lowest price wins.
Nobody seems to complain when Walmart undercuts Safeway or Albertsons and we all enjoy lower prices.

I don't want to speak for everyone but I think what they're saying is our contract didn't undercut anyone. Obviously, if the XJT price to DAL is lower than ASA's it's undercutting ASA. However, with Mesa and GoJets and CHQ, their contracts/pay are lower which (among other factors) enables their management to undercut everyone. The XJT pay is higher than ASA's CRJ-200 pay which means XJT management found other ways to make our operation cheaper.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter how we were able to attain a cheaper price than ASA. ASA pilots are still out of some flying and they're fighting a long, uphill battle for their contract - all of which sucks.

xjt's management does not undercut anybody, they are not bottom feeders like many other regionals. they have high standards, just like whiskey and a couple others. their service an operation as a whole is what won them the flying!

So when you lose flying to CHQ, it's because they are undercutting, but when you win it, it's cause of your superior service and operation....

Lets not kid ourselves, the lowest bidder who can deliver the flying wins.

I think there is some confusion as to the meaning of the word "undercutting". It simply means you are delivering the product or service for a lower price than your competitors. Simple as that. It does not have a negative connotation. Any regional that gets awarded flying for which the lowest bidder wins is, by definition, undercutting the competitors. Nothing wrong with that.

.

that's been discussed many times over. it's because larry doesn't want to have a situation like comair. where all his eggs are in one basket.

well that's not the case here, I think it has a lot to do with the XR's. Larry chose CHQ because he has wet dreams about eventualluy using their 170's. Lets hope the CAL pilot group doesn't cave

I guess the point i was trying to get across was that Mesa is able to undercut at the expense of its employees and their QOL. XJT can do it simply because they run a better business.

I agree its undercutting, just dont think in a bad way, which is the how it sounds when you put it the way you did.

Well said! In other words, Mesa's crappy management and lack of operational efficiency is made up on the backs of its employees with the sub-par contracts. They work more for less. This is why MAG ALPA needs to lay down the line this September. Enough is enough.

Actually NO ONE cares about so called alter ego carriers ......those CA at GoJet are getting hired EVERYWHERE!!! ALPA carriers and anywhere they want to go! Gotta love capitalisim!

My point above...and later echoed by many....it is HILARIOUS when a kid in his first or second regional job with 2000 hours of 121 time thinks his flying is stole by another pilot....shows how stupid most are.....I must say its nice to know what type of compeition is out there when a hiring boom starts....im in like flint :-)
