Yeah, you are missing my point, I just was saying that their mins went up, good/bad/indifferent. I think experience should count more than internal recs, just was surprised to see the "oceanic crossing experience". I mean heavy time is one thing, cant teach that, but seems to be you would be able to teach the regs, responsibilities, duties of the Crossing the pond stuff......thats all I was trying to say

Yes you can teach this stuff.......and They do but if I was doing the hiring
I would hire plots with the MOST EXPERIENCE. The ones with the most experience with internal recs would be on the top of the list.

Yeah, you can teach it, but there is no substitute for having done it before....a lot.

FlatSpin07 is all upset because I said I spoke with a CAL, CA who said the friends & family hiring at CAL, is questionable, FlatSpin happens to be one of em, so he got upset, I mean after all he spent two years on an RJ, why shouldnt he be on the 73
I think the actual comment was that CAL hires people with 0 PIC, that got him disgruntled

Nah your one comment didnt get me disgruntled--- your continued bashing of the company I work for and the company that still gives your company 75% of its income.... Honestly annoys me. The fact that you will bring up CAL in a conversation that has nothing to do with CAL annoys me.
As I said before CAL has hired very few people in my position, Interns and Family, and I will state openly I got very lucky, and at the same time I know that there are people who have "paid their dues" longer than I have, and who have that turbine PIC time that I dont have.
What I ask of you is if you were me and had a chance to go to work at CAL at the age of 25 would you say no?
Oh and I have enough of a head on my shoulders not to go and run for the 756 or the 777, I know I have much to learn on the 737.

They million dollar question is why does UPS hire this way? Have they had high rates of failures in the MD11 training. Or have they had incidents on the line with new F/O's with no heavy or int'l experience?
Cal has hired lots of low time new hires into the 777 and 757-767 flying int'l and have not had any problems?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I would say no to a CAL job offer right now. The COMPANY is not for me. In fact, I can't confidently pick any px carrier aside from SWA that I feel has the stability I am looking for. I gladly work for Expressjet. I mean no disrespect to CAL....but please don't look at it as if CAL is doing XJT a favor by providing us business....There are plenty of places for CAL to go and buy seats....we just happen to be the hands down best. They are obviously doing something right....one of the few majors buying planes and not dealing with bankruptcy judges.
I don't know how else to explain it to you......

There is a lot more to an oceaninc crossing than just merely regs.

This statement says a lot to me.... What gives you the impression that for the 737 you are ok but the 756/777 you are not? You say "lucky" to get there.....so be it. If you are there, someone feels you are qualified/able. If you are qualified for the company, the company should be able to put you on the 756/777 and use you as a resource...hence why its called "human resources." You shouldn't be hired under the impression that you can get by on one jet but can't yet handle another..... that sets a poor precedence.

I felt transition from the RJ to the 737 really wasnt to bad... Theres a lot going on but it was a step from a 50,000 lb airplane to a 120-170,000lb airplane vs going to a 757/767/777 which has a very different mission and has more to adjust to than the 737. I have no doubt in my mind that I could have successfully completed 757 or 777 training but it would have been a tougher transition for me. That also being said 777 reserves really dont do anything and they have to go down to the sim every 90 days becasue they dont get their landings in. I would find it difficult to stay sharp when you are lucky to get a landing every month.
I hope that explains my thought process a little better...
It is not an issue of what "CAN" I do but where the best place it for me.
Oh and I have absolutely no ill will toward Xjet, I really enjoyed my time there, and I hope everything works out for the best it seems like the company there is spreading out the risk nicely so if something doesnt work as well as it should they can shift things around. I
