flight bags

My advice? Spend the money on a good kit that will last forever. I think there is a newer company that sells top grain leather kits with metal "skid plates" and reinforcement strips. Don't know the name, but one of the other folks on here could probably tell you the name.
Or you can go buy a $60 faux leather kit every 1-2 years or so when it falls apart...

I've seen both the Scott and the Coyote case, and the Coyote is a much better product. It's built better, plain and simple. The cost is high, but with the lifetime warranty (vs. a limited warranty from Scott), I think it's worth it.
In case you're wondering, I don't have a Coyote case. I have a US Luggage case which, when it falls apart, will be replaced with a Coyote case. No sense in spending the money now when I already have a case that works.

Those bags from Scott and Coyote look nice and there made somewhere near me in TX, but on turbo prop pay, 1st year at that not going to happen. Maybe when I start flying a Boeing.

Man I never even bought a flight bag. I ended up picking one up off of a Captain who retired. As FlyerJosh said... good bags last forever. This one is really old, but it holds up well. My friend bought a $100 bag that broke a few months after he bought it. Maybe you could find one laying around... who knows with all the retirements. hese days.

I had a Jepp bag- that got trashed after a while- then got one of these.

I had a basic Jeppesen case for 5 years of hard use. Finally the wraparound straps broke. I was ****ed 'cuz the bag was just starting to look good.
Replaced it with a Scott. The quality of the leather of the Scott is good. Service was good. But I am totally unimpressed with the quality of the locks. They seem really cheesy and cheaply made. For the $$$ that bag cost you would think they would put on locks with some precision and good rollers and pins. But they seem cheap and once the combo changed on mine by one digit, simply because it is clearly cheaply made and the rollers do not turn with precision.
Otherwise seems like a reasonable product.
Not cheap, but quality never is. Other than the locks I think it is a good product.

I flew the thing the other night for the first time, didn't seem like there was room in there for ANY flight bag. Do you guys just take all the stuff out you need and throw the bag in an overhead bin? I have a small flight bag I used for my previous cfi/charter job but its too small to carry what SKW wants me to carry.
