Hopefully you're like me, a genetic freak who's hearing has survived 98% intact after decades of guns and demo in the military, and props and jets without ANR.

But I know many older guys who's hearing is shot and have to wear earplugs under their ANR to try to save what they have left. If you're young I wouldn't take the chance... most old skool pilots are pretty deaf, they didn't have ANR available back in the day and it catches up with most. One guy has been a pilot and rock musician his whole life, but his hearing is so bad he has to wear special headphones to play or listen to music, because he can't afford any more damage.

Use earplugs on the walk-around too... that's probably the worst exposure you get.

135 guy here. I personally stick to dried foods (beef jerky, trail mix, occasional candy bar) just because I hate carrying a cooler.

To think I went out on 16 day sojourns with a hanging bag and a carry-on, international, too.

There’s a not insignificant percentage that do. Most people think it’s tacky, it’s also prohibited in a lot of FOM’s.

Not only tacky, but if you look at our senior brethren who work for the major airlines, I’ll wager that you’ll find that very few use backpacks. Ergo, one would think that they are unprofessional.

You look like a 3-year old especially wearing both straps.
Kinda puts you in the same corner as the Earbuds and the Sunglasses.

I see it a lot, even at mainline. However they are not wearing it with uniform on or in airport but rather as their flight back hanging off front of main roller.

This serves as their exploring bag when at the home I wager. Pretty good idea as I have hiked/walked/run before on overnights wishing I had a bag for phone, snacks and water.

This. I use a backpack, but when I'm in uniform, then it's on the suitcase. Ogio gear is great for organizing a lot of stuff. It's really easy to grab gear while in the cockpit, too.
