My wife was a week overdue, but there were no signs that labor was imminent. Other than being a week overdue.

It was a very difficult decision to call off and go home (DAY to IAH, two flights a day 6 am and 6 pm). I had all of 10 hours sick time banked, and no assurance that we'd be going to delivery any time soon. But being up to 14 hours away from home was an intollerable situation as well. And God forbid I actually get a trip to someplace harder to get home from than DAY!

Being there for the birth of my son was the defining moment of my life. It fundamentally changed me forever. I'd trade everything for it.

I love flying, but flying is meaningless compared to him.

This career has its pluses and its minuses. Compensation used to be a plus.
Now that compensation is a minus it is becoming harder to soberly say that on the whole being a pilot a good life.

Many many soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are missing the births of their children, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. too. Maybe they should all quit the military too. It's called life. Yes, if you want to be home every night and you can't have it any other way, these kinds of careers are not for you.
Your turn is coming. We'll see how well you handle being away when there is a young life who needs you at home. 10 Million seems like nothing in comparison.

I know. You know exactly how I am going to feel. I'll just quit and feed the baby Ramen noodles.

Sky, I don't even know why I respond to you. You think you have all the answers and I think I have all the answers. We are never going to agree so I am going to STOP THE MADNESS RIGHT HERE AND NOW.

I will gladly stop if you promise to come back in a year or so and share your new perspectives as a new mother.

Are you a German by any chance? The Way you Capitalize Words in a Sentence makes me Think so…

Oh, and to answer your question - I do!
