"I grew up" <-- meaning a long time ago, before costs were what they are today. I don't need to say anymore.. you're happy making $6000 after taxes.. knock yourself out, and do me (and many others) a favor and stay at your Regional.. Please! |
$100K is bare-minimum pay to support a family these days...you might also get a couple dirt bikes, an RV, or a ski boat out of the deal but you're not going to have a vacation home in the mountains or a big house in a nice neighborhood. I know teachers at my high school who made no more than $50k and supported a family of 4 or 5 pretty well. They didn't be take any extravagant vacations, didn't drive a BMW, sure as heck didn't have "a couple dirt bikes, an RV, or a ski boat," and they were quite content. They lived in a nice sized house and in a nice, safe, and very family oriented neighborhood. They loved their life. 100k is the "minimum" to support a family? Whatever. |

When you get out of that C-172 of yours and learn what flying is all about, maybe you'll have more self worth. I'll give you a clue.. it's not what your RJ FO pals are telling you with their simple to-from routs that are easily memorizable.. Try flying an MD-11 around the world into airports where you've never been, with no radar, a controller who can't speak english, and an 18 hour duty day behind you, or with 15,000lb fuel left and possible CAT II or III weather waiting on you.. Then you'll appreciate why $100K isn't much. |

No they were, they weren't talking about status, they were talking about 50K vs 100K and liveability on those salaries.
Wake up kid. edit: btw, my wife was a teacher and saw first hand the difference between kids who's mom says home and those who's mom works.. let's just say it was significant. |

Great point SAAB.. What is life without fun?
One thing I like about *************.com that this and the other forum doesn't have is a requirement that all members posting be actual Commercial or ATP pilots which weeds out the management moles and pukes that come on here and vomit their bs about how pilots are over paid.. I sure wish APC would consider this type of registration system. I refuse to believe that real pilots would spout off like some of these guys. |

He is a Wal-Mart Assistant Manager!!! Something else I didn't know... A STORE manager makes roughly $110,000/yr! And half the time thats with only a 2 year degree! Wow! That job sounds great! $50K would not be worth dealing with the type of people that work at Wal Mart. No thanks! |
