No I don’t sit there in stony silence ignoring the first officer I’m flying with. I do have the ability to work with others. 😃

That sounds like it’s borderline certifiable.

Nope. The current culture and political environment has made hanging out with crews outside of work risky. I hate to say it but it’s true. I will occasionally hang out with the other pilot for dinner or something but otherwise no.

I have seen too many instances of FAs making false accusations and claims against pilots. It can and has ruined people’s lives. The reality is that the cabin crew has far less invested and far less to lose than the flight crew. Anyone telling you otherwise is naive.

As a cautionary tale. We had a crew that decided it would be a good idea to drink a 24 pack bud light with the FA’s at the overnight hotel. One of the FA’s vomited all over her room. The hotel reported the entire crew as drinking inside the 12 hour rule. The Captain had to start over as a new hire FO at another regional. Good luck telling that story to mainline. Moreover explaining it to your wife because he had a family.

The biggest problem right there is the Bud Light.

Starter beer. But better eight of those than six triple-hops craft stouts with 12% ABV.

Comply with the FAA 8-hour rule period. That way you can still get another job like our hero above.

If you must bust the company rule (be it 12 or 10) do it at a quiet place far from the crew hotel. Wear a hat from a different/unaffiliated airline. Pay cash. Avoid cabs and uber, they might frequent the hotel and know the staff. Return via the rear/side door near your room. Don't for the love of God take any FA's with you.

I've known of multiple discipline events (usually firing) for drinking inside one limit or the other, all reported by hotel staff usually because the crew did something obnoxious to draw attention to themselves.

What I’m dying to know is why so many unstable FAs are hired in the first place!

Does HR simply not care and willfully looking the other way, or are there many who are that good at “fronting” during the interview?

Sure.......there are bad apples in every profession that slip through, butttt it sure seems like a higher % for FA.

What gives?

Fly cargo, have your girlfriends around the world, much better. Or be happily married and loyal, nothing beats that.
