Hey all. I am 38yrs old and finally starting the career I should have been in from the beginning. I will have my commercial with nearly 300hrs by end of April, 2020, then moving to ME, CFI, etc, etc. I have a 4yr Aviation degree from a credited university. I have been researching preliminary regional carriers for some time now and there is so much info out there that it is hard to know when to start applying for conditional offers and know the right route to take. I live in FLA and need to remain here for at least another 8 or 9 years so I will be commuting. Any advice would be great as far as carriers to look into, etc. or just good solid info. Many thanks in advance look forward to some great insight, thanks.

As I would guess that you're still at least 10-12 months from being ready to start, I would recommend just browsing these forums and keeping a finger to the pulse of any regionals that might interest you. Most will give CJOs up to six months out, some have cadet programs, etc. On one hand, we really need more information (primarily a more specific location) to give you solid recommendations. On the other, you're far enough out that whatever recommendations you get now likely won't be as valid when it's time for you to apply, interview, and make your decision. It's always good to do your research, but unless there's a very obvious choice (only one regional with a base in your city), you'd be doing yourself a disservice by making the decision this far in advance when so much can change in a year.

Probably not what you’re wanting to hear, but the industry is very dynamic - especially at the regional level - the hero now may not be so hot by the time one interviews, gets through training, IOE, etc. And that’s if you were getting close to your 1500. Who knows what things look like in a couple years from now when you’re hitting the line. I say focus on what you’re doing now and becoming a good CFI, not just killing time to 1500.

Number one thing once you get to a regional is dont commute. Especially if you have a family. Envoy or Republic is basically what you are looking at for the MIA base, provided you live in south fl.
Commuting takes away a lot of your off days and its stressful. Not worth it for a job that pays sub 100k for a first few years.

Are you locked in as an airline pilot? Lots of the "corporate" gigs make travel to and from work a breeze.
