Default Suggestions for living in Chicago

I'll be based in ORD soon and I'm trying to sort out the living situation. I'm taking out my bid for SLC for now and I think I'm gonna see what Chicago has to offer. I've heard Bucktown, Evanstown and several others are nice. I've checked on craiglist but have no idea what to look for. Obviously on SKW first year pay I'm not looking to live too lavishly

Any input is welcome!

If you get a place within walking distance of the train, that will save some commuting hassle. In fact, you don't even need a car in Chicago unless you have kids or other complications.

Test your commute in rush hour before you sign a lease, the trains can be variable due to loads and schedule.

Also keep in mind that "walking distance" in May may not be the same as walking distance in January (with a 35Kt wind )

try the pavillion to start. its airline central. theres lots of crashpads there you can get in to there. its 2 stops on the blue line to ohare, and not bad till you get off first year pay and decide to move closer to the city

Was it difficult to get ORD for SKW? That's exactly what I want to do. I would recommend something in the NW suburbs.....might be pricey though for 19 bucks an hour!

Talkin' to a guy Jumpseating out here for the Interview - he says there's a development off the Approach-end of 27R that houses half the Pilots that fly out of ORD...On the days chock-full of wx-cancel's, it's the PLACE to be!

Welcome to the greatest city in the world. Rosemont, Bensenville and Elk Grove are all great places to live. Bucktown, is nice to but don't bother unless you are from money. You will never be able to afford it your first year SKW pay. There is actually a place called Hamilton Court,* where Devon dead ends in Elk Grove. (Devon Rd is 15 minute/10 mile drive to West fence of O'Hare.) Its pretty reasonable actually.

*Chris Farley may have visited this development the day he "OD"-ed. But one bad resident does not make the whole building sh*t.

Is that the place around the corner from the Renaisannce, and Bennigan's (pardon the spellings)? I have heard there is a "watering hole" nearby. Sometimes we get in late to ORD, and the Bennigan's is closed, and the R-Bar is too expensive.
