Cicadas in ORD
#13
A couple weeks ago I was doing some landings with a private pilot student when a fox ran out on the runway and just stood there. I grabbed the controls and jumped on the brakes. The student didn't see it until we were nearly stopped. The d*** fox just stood there and stared at us the whole time. Eventually it ran off back into the grass and out the airport fence. About two days later one walked right in front of us across the taxiway on our way out to the runway. Never seen any animals around GFK except the birds, who knows why there are foxes running around all of a sudden.

Yes I've been having a big problem with the cicadas getting into the APU as well, if the temp was tolerable I was electing not to turn on the packs after the apu got going..... it seemed to be a bigger problem in the -700 than the -200 for whatever reason..... anyway, I did 6 legs out of ORD today and didn't see a single one, so I think we're in the clear

The first few days it was kind of funny. After the aircraft had all done a few dozen ORD turns the smell became overpowering. I hope that we have seen the last of them for now. Fortunately I don't have to do any ORD turns for a while, although almost all of the aircraft will. What a mess.

There's a fox den at the end of 35L at GFK somewhere....and those huge cicadas are all over the place at ORD...I flew out the other day and there were a couple being blown around on the wing during pushback

That's news to me Dolph. 3 years up here and I've never seen one until last month.
