The flying is actually quite good. I agree with you there, and the people are great. The city? Yeah... I'm used to the Pacific Northwest so I guess I'm biased.

I remember talking to a senior FO in SLC. He said he always bids for standups. He gets to stay at home during the day with his family and spend time with the kids. When its time for work, they are already in bed. He leaves late, sleeps in a hotel, returns early and has the rest of the day to enjoy. He painted a pretty picture but what do I know? I've never done one.

SKW treats folks pretty well but there have been a number of recent erosions in QOL and pay that were essentially imposed unilaterally by the company. Nothing majot yet, but definately worth keeping an eye on things.

this summer flying fiasco is not good for anyones QOL... keep in mind all the open time volunteers have done a great job of bailing the company out of a very bad situation

good money for the open time lovers: Yes

Management being taught a lesson about staffing: No because the flying is being taken care of and everything looks great to them

Standups go pretty senior at some companies, including SKW. It all depends on the schedule and workrules...

At SKW (due to the flight schedules) you start at around 2100, get 6 hours or more in a bed (in a hotel, lol), a lot of credit for flying two legs, done at 0730, and your day free to do whatever you want.

At Mesa, the legendary horrible standups (camping trips) start in PHX at 1830, fly 4 legs (with a plane swap and long sit in LAS), and a 3 hour nap in the back of the airplane at an outstation. There is no extra pay or anything, and you normally do 5-6 trips in a row, by which time you a physically destroyed...just in time for your two days off. These go very junior obviously.
