Everybody wants to fly the big iron. Flying heavies around the cargo world is a dream come true for me. Get those hours LOGGED and get your apps in. You can do it. You can do anything you put your mind to.

There's a temporary easing of the pilot shortage now through 2024 IIRC.

It will resume in spades in 2025, and the demand will exceed previous years by a significant margin for several years to follow.

It's not over yet, all else being equal.

8 years is an eternity in this industry. One economic down-turn in this chart goes out the window.

For some. Others have no desire to sit in a cockpit or crew berth for such extended periods of time.

There’s tons of student flying at my local airport, I was there recently and I’d never seen anything like it. Supply is coming but it will be interesting to see what happens at the regionals.

Same here, but the student pilots on the radio had heavy accents and sometimes a little difficulty with English. It must be remembered that the pilot shortage is global in nature, and that the US trains a lot of student pilots that won’t ever work here.

You make an excellent point. As much of a demand there is for pilots for US carriers, international demand is going to be even more.

It is a freight train coming. It may have to slow at a curve, but ultimately it is going to be full speed ahead.

The pilot shortage is not due to the lack of trainees or ATP ready pilots.

Definitely not everyone. I have zero interest for extended flights, backside of the clock flying or multiday trips but I'm glad you enjoy it.

Some people like the flying and destinations.

Many others simply like the extreme productivity (credit 30 hours in three day).

The shorter the legs, the more legs and more airport sit time and unpaid cockpit setup you do relative to credit. I find transcons and Latin America to be a nice compromise.
