Hired at AWAC!!

I see your point, but I'm very happy I can say that I "did this," regardless of whether I continue or not. As I stated previously, I think regret takes an intangible toll on one's life. I can't tell you about how many middle-age folks have told me that they regret not pursuing some dream when younger. I will not have that, and neither will you.
I have interviewed for other jobs, and I can't agree with you on that front. My background in aviation combined with an Ivy League degree HAS gotten me other job offers, one of which willing to pay me $10,000 more a year due to the aviation experience. If you can sell the responsibility, situational awareness, and accountability that you've gained through flying, you can impress some folks. I see your points somewhat, but I really can't say that it's hurt me as a young guy. At all. It got me my dream job (outside of aviation, but directly related), and I have no regrets.

There are plenty of older people who wish they had NOT done certain things as a youngster. It is foolish to think that you can go through life without any regrets. Often it seems that younger people use all kinds of flawed logic to give themselves permission to do foolish things.
Aviation experience is near worthless inside of aviation and out. If you have a future at all as a professional it is most likely due to your Ivy League education and not the interesting footnote of being a pilot.

AWAC finally just called me, I missed the call and they didnt leave a message, I called them back and got the switch board to forward me over to pilot recruiting, I left Tina a message, I hope she calls back! I have been waiting a month for them to call me

I appreciate SkyHigh too. I know he is irritating to some people, but with such a wayward personality how could you not enjoy how he stirs things up. He is so predictably negative you can't really say there's anything very discouraging in it. It's a contrary perspective. And there is always the hope he will get that mythical AS offer.

Well, there will be a lot more positions available at AWAC pretty soon considering the # of CA's that are leaving. There were 5 pretty senior CA's alone in the June 26th class at Compass. Seniority ranging from 4 years to 9 years. In fact I don't think we have had a class yet that didn't have an AWAC CA in it.
Good news for all you future AWAC'ers...or the guys waiting a couple years to upgrade

Do what you love. Don't listen to skyhigh. I doubt he even has any cubicle experience. If he does it probably was a failure just like his airline career. All the pilots that I know have perfectly happy family lifes. Its all depends on who your married to. Skyhigh probably has some high maintenance, clingy type of wife that can't stand if he leaves for a day.

Nature and business abhor a vacuum. There is a balance for every sacrifice and luxury. Pilots may appear to have more fun at work but there is a huge price to be paid.
Life is about choices and opportunity costs. Aviation is a tempting but a costly one. You can't have it all. One choice precludes others. Flying sets a lot of what one values most in life aside.
