About 35 crews, give or take--depends on how many FO's have bailed for the upgrade.

Oh I understand. Perhaps you don't understand what being bypassed is. A bro guy wanting to upgrade to the CRJ left seat where they have to train two guys now instead of one. At RAH they have done it a few times. 145 guys wanting the 170 but RAH is so short staffed they don't want to double the amount of people in training. It's a reasonable question.

In order to upgrade you need:

1) The required flight experience
2) The seniority
3) Not be seat locked

You could be eligible for upgrade based on seniority, but not meet the experience requirements...too bad, that's what happens when you're new to the industry

You could also be seat locked...but that only happens if you voluntarily change equipment. You have no one but yourself to blame for that.

Nobody at SKW (or any other airline) is upset about being bypassed for legit reasons.

There are a few airlines (mesa, etc) which are bypassing fully qualified individuals for the convenience of the company. Usually this is because they cannot hire or train a replacement for your current job, so they hire a street captain and leave you as an FO. This means that they incur just one instead of two training events, and that they don't lose a line pilot for three months of training. Obviously this ********s, and is a tactic for desperate airlines.

Republic Air Holdings??? Any company that is short staffed and has multiple aircraft available for upgrade is trying what they can.

How easy is it to get in to ATL? Living near MCO its hard to commute and too expensive to move.

Still don't think we're on the same page. So lets say the follow situation has occured:

5 RJ upgrade slots available

10 pilots want those slots and here are their seniority numbers/situation:
.....1 CA EMB - Seat lock
.....2 FO CRJ - Seat locked
.....3 FO EMB - No Seat Lock
.....4 FO CRJ - No Seat Lock
.....5 CA EMB - No Seat Lock
.....6 FO EMB - 2200/800
.....7 FO EMB - 2700/1200
.....8 FO CRJ - 2900/1300
.....9 FO EMB - 2500/1000
.....10 FO CJR - 1900/700

Who gets the upgrade? 3, 4, 5, 7, 8

You say they don't want to train extra pilots? I'm guessing, from the lack of clarity, you mean to back fill the other a/c's position including the upgrader in training (2 training spots). But doesn't that happen anyway? Even if a RJ FO upgrades you must replace him. Now if an EMB CA transitions then you must replace his EMB CA position and the position for the pilot who accepted the newly opened EMB CA position (3 training spots). I can say that I haven't heard of anyone being bypassed because of this situation. I guess we need a union to protect us? Wait, don't you guys have a union and it's still happening?

No Offense and take care!

Shouldn’t be that hard, worst case you might end up in ORD or MKE for a month before accepting ATL. Currently we have 20 FO's in ATL but the company will slowly expand the domicile and should be around 60 FO's by next summer.

Yes it's happening but the union is doing what it can to fight it. The guys are getting pay protected but not at the rate they'd like.

So say you have 5 CRJ slots open. You have 5 jr crj fo's who qualify and 5 more senior bro captains. If the 5 bro captains go for the upgrade then they have to train 10 captains instead of training 5. If the company is tight on people that causes an issue. It's not out of the question to see if they have done it or not with no union to help.

That's not too bad for a commute from the mouse house I guess. Thanks for the info.
