skywest upper management is smart and wealthy too. you know what theyre saying? "If it aint broke, dont fix it."

Youre thinking like a manager. Youre a blue collar pilot. Think like one.

For some reason I was thinking our shirts were white.... I'll have to go look in my closet, its seems I don't pay very close attention to these things.

Go learn about unions before making a decision.

Your labor, not managment! Get it?

I will vote YES!

btw - this website says ASA's most junior captain was hired june 04 in the RJ, and Nov 04 in the T-prop. Theyre upgrading captains just as fast as SKW is every month. So whats the worry?
Not to worry, if and when there is a merger, there will be fences. It will be years (3-4) before any ASA pilot could benefit from a SKW pilot positions/domicile and vice versa.

All I can say is percentage based not DOH, but that won’t be up to me and I’ll be long gone before it matters.

I will vote for what I think will:

#1. Better my life
#2. Better SKW
#3. Better SKW Inc
#4. Better the industry

This is only your opinion, and it is in direct conflict with what JA has said. There is no plan to merge the carriers.

As for the presence of ALPA making your life worse "for you and your family in the long run" I disagree. If Mo runs a plan into a building tomorrow, we will all get to sit right where we are for a long time; trust me. ALPA will in the long run help your pilot group resolve things that occur between labor and management.

I, and many others have posted countless examples of how your pilot group has benefited from the efforts of ALPA.

just incase your new to this; here's a good one.

Comair pilots fight a long battle but management won't budge. They are released by the NMB and go into 30 day cooling off period. Which is really when contracts get hashed out. Management still wouldn't budge.

The Comair pilots went on strike. They refused to let the race to the bottom go through their airlines. Their actions benefitted ALL of US!! ASA, Eagle, Republic, and yes, even Skywest. Your boss does not continue to give you bumps in pay just because he's a good guy. He's competing with the other carriers who negotiate a fair contract. Those contracts are earned by due paying members who bring teams of ALPA legal, accounting, and negotiating experience to enhance a pilot's group ability to negotiate.

Meanwhile, what did you do to help the comair pilots? Nothing! ALPA members kicked in extra dues to help support the Comair pilots while they were out on a strike that made all of our lives better.

How can you not see that!

Every time I make a post like this, it gets dodged, so I'm sure you'll dodge this too.

But if the only thing that motivates you is your selfish intrest, consider this.

The last Delta class had 2 Skywest and 12 ASA. Their are many carriers that have pilots sitting on their hiring board and they are more than familiar with the Skywest/AlPA situation. Please don't take that as a threat, but in one of those "all things being equal" cases, the ALPA pilot is going to have a leg up with that interviewer.

Stick

I would think you would put #4 in the #2 spot. Unless you plan on making SKW a career, in which case I understand.

READ THIS POST OVER AND OVER SKYWEST PILOTS!!!!!

Even if JA merged us someday, this is the probable time line:

Dec 07 let's merge...
it will takes months to get stockholder/board approval

it will take several more months to get the two labor groups together to start talking about a deal.

it will takes several more months to finalize a deal and then an additional month or two for Road Shows where your representitive will explain how it is going to work.

it will take another month or two for a vote.

Historically, when mergers happen they install "fences" and keep the two groups seperate for a period of time, usually 18 to 24 months. So let's do some math

3+3+3+1+1+18= 29 Months or 2 1/2 YEARS!!!!!

The guy that this would effect hasn't even gotten his Private pilot license yet! So relax. It's not going to effect any current pilots upgrade.

Now, if you say that you want to prevent someone from getting your Santa Barbara base. O.K. I get that. But remember, it doesn't matter how much seniority you have, you can't bid a base, if there are no vacancies. So if you are where you want to be, no one is going to bump you out.

Some of you talk about the dues, well its true. you pay dues, but you can deduct them from your taxes and they go for more than just a war chest for strikes. ALPA has helped increase safety through their committees, they have help to influence senators on matter that are pertanent to pilots, again, something we ALL benefit from.

As for the seniority thing........ ASA pilots do not have greater seniority!!! Depending on where you are in your list you might go up or down. The number 1 guy at ASA would not be the number 1 guy if they merged.
I looked it up for me, and I would remain in about the same percentage,i.e. NO CHANGE
So please......RELAX......... don't let fear of an upgrade make up your mind about ALPA.

Stick

P.S. just so you don't think I'm trying to weasle your upgrade away from you, I'm a 700 Captain in my 11th year. My life won't change a bit, but I do believe that it is what is best for the regional industry as a whole.

This dooes sound like a threat to me. Regardless with the number of captains getting hired at majors from SkyWest all this tells me is that SkyWest captains aren't choosing Delta.

No what it means is ASA pilots who are based in ATL are better connected with those who work for Delta so they get selected to interview first. Don't be dumb enough to think SKW pilots aren't applying.
