They probably weren't XJT pilots. The QOL depends on what you are looking for. You are home based. The company will buy you a ticket to where ever they need you. You only get 14 days off and no set schedule. So you are on call, but with the home base it isn't like a two hour call and get to an airport. The pay is good. You will not fly very much. Lots of sitting around in hotels. So it depends if that is what you like.
I'm sure most of the time it is better than flying a line.

It's just part of the incentive package that was negotiated. I flew with a guy who had done the charter gig and gone back to the line, and he said he was only logging about 30 hours a month.

As for other info, here's some stuff he said about himself: Been at company about 3 years, bottom 25% of captain seniority at EWR, month to month schedule goes back and forth between lines and reserve, and is making close to $80K with per diem.
Just hearsay, could be all crap.
And if any of ya'll are wondering about Colgan upgrade times, one of the instructors I used to fly with was at the gliderport. He's been at Colgan a little over a year now and will be upgrading on the Saab next month. Keep in mind though he was hired with like 4000 hours. And he actually says he loves working at Colgan.

I actually spke with an XJet captain at the gliderport this weekend who said they were really HIGHER. He said they're looking to hire guys with about 1000 or so because too many low timers were washing out of training.
