Surprise, suprise! Payroll f###ed up again!

"Please read the attached memo from Dave Soaper, Senior Vice President of Aircraft Operations, and Dan Dixon, Chief Financial Officer, regarding your March 2 pay increase. This increase was inadvertently left off of your March 1 advance, which includes your guaranteed pay for the first half of the month. Payroll is currently cutting manual checks for the difference, and these will be mailed to your home address on record this week."

H46Bubba 03-11-2008 03:53 PM

Oh and they're coming up with a buyout for senior pilots due to the fact that they're keeping the operational costs up, but that "Age 65" was a double edged sword (heard that several times during the call). On one side it keeps pilots in the cockpit with the "pilot shortage", but on the other hand it keeps operational costs high due to paying the senior guys payrates.

TristarJS30 03-11-2008 04:03 PM

If I read that right, I'll be getting a check for 19 bucks and some change for the 51 cents/hr that was left off? After taxes its not worth the paper its printed on. At least they admitted it, but I don't like them holding on to anything thats rightfully mine... even if it was a 'mistake.'

Pantera 03-11-2008 04:16 PM

The one thing that caught my ear was the downsizing of the fleet to 115 planes. That is going to suck.

Hey! John wants to see smiling faces out there! Remember... flying less means we make more money!

Or something like that.

andy171773 03-11-2008 04:43 PM

I loved the part about "needing to operate on minimum staffing".

A.) why isn't the union knocking down the door for this comment
B.) how are they going to cut staffing anymore when we're short pilots everryywheeerrreeee

TristarJS30 03-11-2008 04:44 PM

Or better yet, how is minimum staffing going to allow us to accept flying from other companies or Delta itself? Even if the opportunity presented itself, its not like people are knocking down the door to come here and Comair has one of the longest training programs around.

andy171773 03-11-2008 04:52 PM

Especially if they're thinking about offering buyouts. It was kool-aid down to the last drop. Most of the questions they "couldn't answer" anyways.

<--Disenchanted

The comment was made just a few hours ago. I don't think the union has had time to "knock down the door". Believe it or not, there is a process that these things have to go through, rather than just "knocking down the door". Give it time, man. Trust me, they're on it. Eventhough you may not get a detailed update and itemized report each day, they are on it.

Also, I don't recall hearing about any pilot staffing cuts.

They made some mention (unless i'm mistaken) of their continued operation at minimal staffing for budget issues.

I think that was in the context of securing future flying for another carrier. If it is more immediate that would require quick action, we would operate out of the CVG base at minimal staffing to cover as much as possible. Minimal staffing because we don't have the pilots right now to cover immediate flying for another carrier. I believe he went on to say that we would eventually open up a new crew base as hiring ramped up.

I don't think that comment was in the context of our operation as it is today.

Now let's see if we can get people in the door. Maybe some new flying good news would help. I bet it would.

I think you are right. Growth tends to attract applicants. Ask Republic and Skywest. We haven't been able to attract pilots because we have been shrinking with grim prospects for a fruitful future.

Things are looking up, Open time has appeared again on SBS. TWO READYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop your mouths from watering you fiends.

BACK, BACK I SAY

RJtrashPilot 03-11-2008 05:59 PM

Don't get too excited yet. It's only the 70/90 SAW. It'll close in 36 hours.

garritto 03-11-2008 06:21 PM

I was walking through Logan listening in on the teleconference and loved the pilot that called in and called Soaper "an old fart". Anyone else hear that?

Yeah, I think I know which pilot that was and they are good friends from what I know. It was a term of endearment. I don't think I could have said that and still expect to have a job right now.

andy171773 03-11-2008 06:29 PM

Did you all use your real names when you called in? Or have some fun :)

Peter Frampton was interested in what Comair had to say today.

BlueMoon 03-11-2008 06:38 PM

At least there wasn't any bad news! Well except Oil closed at like 108+ a barrel...

I saw gas for 3.16 and fought with 30 other cars to top off...

cessna157 03-11-2008 06:44 PM

Ahh, you must have went to the place on 18? They were just on the news.

I gotta go to the bank and take out a loan every time I need to gas up. And I drive a hybrid! I'd hate to have an SUV

Ha, i drive a Jeep Liberty...damn thing drinks gasoline. I have contemplated bidding JFK just for public transportation.

I personally hate driving, I suck at it.

Does that correlate with your flying skill?;)

Someone needs your input on the "New to the Industry" thread about scARI Ben. I've already vouched for you and your expertise.

oh geez...you had to remind me about that place just before I go to sleep.

Pilotguy143 03-12-2008 06:07 AM

does anyone know if we have more senior CA's leaving or junior FO's?

RJtrashPilot 03-12-2008 06:12 AM

I think we have more captains leaving than fo's. Now what you consider "senior" is relative. If you are talking about the 20 + year guys, then no, they are staying. It seems most guys leaving for the majors or other greener pastures are in the 8-15 year range, more middle seniority.

CRJDriver 03-12-2008 06:16 AM

I think it's mostly the junior JFK CAs that are leaving. They go to JFK, get their 1000 PIC and get the hell out. I don't think you'll se any of the 15-20 yr. guys out of CVG leave. Why would they take a paycut, move and start all over again? As far as the F/O side. I think it's mostly guys that have ben here <1 year that are leaving.

cfiguy11 03-12-2008 07:09 AM

anyone want to do a PVD turn out of JFK on saturday? id really appreciate it. They wont let me drop it.

I'm not telling you to call in sick in the future, but just take this advice. If you need to get out of a trip or a few legs, don't request drops because chances are that you may not be granted the drop. Putting in drop requests leaves a paper trail, and now if you call in sick for the exact trip or legs that you put in drop requests for, it may be hard to justifiy a sick call when and if the chiefs call you in on it if they decide to research it.

There is absolutely nothing going on today. It is dead. I thought with spring break and an extra 1,500 hrs. of flying this month I'd be flying my butt off...? Guess not.

I'd do it for you no problem but I'm on reserve so you know they won't give it to me.

CRJDriver 03-13-2008 05:43 AM

In case you missed the conference call . . .

"Hundreds Participate In Company-wide Net Conference

Hundreds of employees joined Comair President John Selvaggio and other Comair leaders for a company-wide Net Conference on March 11. John provided a brief presentation on Comair before fielding questions. He and other leaders addressed a variety of topics, including speculation about a potential Delta merger, Comair initiatives for 2008, our fuel-savings initiatives and much more. Check back to EPIC later this week for more details, including a complete replay of the meeting as well as additional questions and answers. John plans to host the Net Conferences monthly, so watch your e-mail and EPIC for dates of upcoming meetings."

I can't believe they want to do this every month. They have been talking about the same crap for years. Maybe they want to discuss the F/A uniforms in more detail at the next conference call:p

Differences Training

I'm scheduled to go to differences training in June. Will the company give me a hotel until the check ride or am I considered in Domicile on day 1?

Pantera 03-13-2008 08:26 AM

they should give it to you until you pass your check ride but you will not get one while you wait for your OE.
