All right, I do agree with you!! I think the PIC requirement for and ATP is too low, isn't it 250? Maybe its 500 hours... Whatever it is, that would force people to at least have some higher time before getting hired into the airline world if they ever wanted to upgrade. What do I know though.

Far too low even more so, considering you can use some 121 SIC time as PIC to check that box.

Its us Captains that have to pay the price by babysitting this pilots on a daily basis.
Just interested in how much of your time you estimate you're babysitting the right seater... and wondering about some of the stories associated with that...

well considering the guy who posted in one of the threads, failed the Piedmont written test, and he just got hire by Colgan with 360hrs TT, so I would expect some of these guys will be doing a lot of babysitting

Oooh, that stings to someone.

Baby-sitting sucks. Don't think it only goes one way though. There's plenty of captains at regionals that need an FO to watch over them. I choose to believe that those captains won't make it to the majors, or at least won't until they no longer need baby sitting by the copilot. Maybe I'm living in fantasy land, but I like it here.

Why do you say low time guys, are you saying that 2000 hour flight instructor flying Seminoles is going to come out on IOE and nail every visual from number 1. Look at what you are complaining about new guys making rookie mistakes. Wait a minute that is redundant. Some of you captains it has been so long since you were new to jets that you forgot you struggled with some of that stuff too. Now dont get me wrong, I am not saying every low time guy or any new guy for that matter deserves a muligan in 121 but if you dont tell right there they will never learn and continue to endanger lives. There is a reason they put a captain on the plane.

Nope not saying they will nail every visual. Having a higher time guy (or girl) in the cockpit isn't about their basic piloting skills, such as flying a visual. What is gained by having a high time pilot flying a jet (among many other things) is that they have developed good decision making skills, in command of an aircraft. Low timers simply haven't spent enough time to develop their skills and the next time they are in command should not be in a plane full of passengers. There is a reason they put two pilots on a plane. And I'm not a captain. I am new to jets, but not new to flying and I'm a young guy too. Rookie mistakes are for Cessnas, not CRJs.
