Load Manifests on the Palm
I was flying with a captain some time ago who had Load Manifest calculator on their Palm Pilot. It was specific to the AC we were flying, the Saab 340. It was very handy for adding and subtracting people/bags to appease our lovely gate agents at the IAD A Gates. Unfortunately, I can't remember the captain's name. Anyone know where to aquire this software? Been looking, but no luck.

It's definitely not approved but you can use it to check your your calculations and make sure that you're on top of it.

If you use it to figure out the weight and balance and it works out when you fill out the sheet, who gives a rip how you came up with the numbers? Thats like saying I can't use my hand held calculator to approximate a fuel burn because the calculator is not approved.

It also becomes useful when you are trying to juggle weight to get that jumpseater on or figure out how many heads aren't going to get where they are going. I don't like to mess up my sheet and have to redo it while crunching number scenarios.

I would mainly use it when the gate agent comes to me and says "we have 32 passengers, 35 checked bags and 15 carryons. Can we put a standby passenger and his bags on the plane?" This happens all the time in Dulles. Ofcourse you can do it on pen and paper. The calculator is just faster and easier. I know that it would be easy to write a spreadsheat program to do this, however a palm is alot lighter than my laptop.
