Um... actually... DataFlex Corporation no longer exists. While I was there, the company expanded massively from basically a single-location value-added reseller / consulting company which developed custom software for businesses to a national company with locations across the country in less than a year. After the massive expansion, the company was sold to GE Capital ITS, and I'm not sure how much of the original company still exists, because I left within six months of GE buying us out since the corporate culture did a 180 and it was no longer such a wonderful company to work for....

But while Rick Rose was at the helm, it was a phenomenal place to work. I would work for him again, without hesitation. (Anybody know how to sway an IT CEO over to the airline industry? Imagine Colgan being run by the guy who wrote "How To Make a Buck and Still Be a Decent Human Being." Hmmm....)

He probably wouldn't do so well over here. In the IT world, you charge a fee for what your product is worth. You don't normally compete only on price when it comes to technology that isn't sold to the masses. Our business models are completely different b/c we work in a regulated deregulated industry(not a typo). Its open competition, but the big players aren't going away if they produce an inferior product thanks to Uncle Sam.

I'm not sure I'd go quite that far. I was rehired by Eagle 5 yrs later while on furlough at a legacy. I guess they (hiring board) had some reservations (figured I was overqualified and would leave quickly I assume, but they were unaware of my apparent brain damage). Fortunately I had a friend inside who spoke up and pointed out my spotless prior record and 5 years of previous service as being worthy of rehiring. I know they hired some other furloughees (AA, not flowbacks) as well who'd been here prior.

Why is that?

I've seen that mentioned many times in various contexts.

The reasoning is that you may start at another company, new company pays X dollars to train you - shortly thereafter you get recalled at your old company and you decide to return after the new company just blew all that money training you.

Hmm, that makes sense. Too bad a senior number isn't a commodity that can be bought and sold or traded.

The practice of forcing furloughees to resign their seniority may be going by the wayside. Several people have been able to get their seniority number back after resigning it by claiming that they were under duress at the time (probably true, if they were broke).
