The guy you talked to is just looking for an excuse. His upgrade is currently sitting at 3 years because of branded flying, CAL possibly pulling more flying, etc. 65 hasn't done anything especially not that fast. If there's anything you can bet on about an airline it's them hiring until they're firing. RAH, SKW, Mesaba, Colgan, etc. are all still upgrading very fast. Don't go using age 65 as some scapegoat.

Not only this...
I just talked with a guy that was 9 months away from upgrade in EWR...and since the age 65 thing rolled in, his upgrade time went to 3 years!
...mines in 5 months STILL!
I know that's pish posh...but I just had to say that...reading this crap is making me sick!

There is a lot to ask yourself when going to an airline then just upgrade. The upgrade at CAL is around 2-3 years the upgrade at Southwest is 8, where would you rather be?
Upgrade Upgrade Upgrade, What don't you understand about the fact that there our thousands of guys with thousands of hours of PIC that are still at the regionals that have been trying to leave for years............

you cant talk sense into these guys. Anything other than a quick upgrade and a supposed shot at the majors is all they are looking for. They dont care about their profession, the guy next to them, or even getting paid well. they even group together on posts to make them feel better for undercutting the industry. i cant wait to see them get stuck at colgan supporting a horrible pilot wage for a couple years while they wait for the phone to ring. Theres more to it then 1000 tpic.
flyguyniner: xjt upgrade was around 2 yrs for awhile and now it is probably going to be around 2.5-3 yrs but that is just a guess. no one knows until it happens. if upgrade was your only reason for going to colgan which i think it was then do you know that you could have worked at a much better regional, made more money, and then gone to a street captain position? theres more then one way to skin a cat and much better companies out there. your a week away from upgrade... thats great but that doesnt do anything for your Q pay. You should be ashamed of your company. You shouldnt be flying those Q's for that pay... enjoy the upgrade and enjoy supporting a horrible company.

my reasons for coming to colgan are mine and mine alone. I'm happy here and there are a ton if pilots that are some people here beleive that their qol will never be better. A lot of guys would rather get paid a little less and have a 10 min commute to work and be home with your wife and kids every night and I dont think anyone can comment on that. There's a lot more to this life than money

your right there should also be PRIDE and SELF RESPECT.enjoy the Q pay rates. keep supporting colgan.
you could have had the same QOL at another regional with similar upgrade and better pay. no reason to work for peanuts.

Colgan's Pilots did not undercut the ExpressJet contract.
Other than our Q400 pay, what makes Colgan a horrible company?
Our benefits standard, our relocation policy is on par with ExpressJet's, our Work rules are pretty typical for a turbo-prop operator. There is good morale here with the upcoming ALPA vote and the QOL of our pilots who live in base has got to be the best in the industry.
Per diem is on the low end, Q400 pay is dreaful and the 401K is a joke. That's about all the bad I can see from the Saab end. We're still new to the contract flying, so bear with us.
Why do you feel the need to keep drilling our pilot group who have no say in how things are run right now? Most of our pilots came for QOL issues- not the upgrade. Where do you get your Colgan facts, by the way? Are you just mad because the Q is going to EWR? REMEMBER- currently there are only 9 pilots on the Q400. Not many of our pilots will work for those wages, just so you know. You're ignorance just assumes it.
